Arsenal Open Talks With Agent After ‘Agreeing €15m Midfielder Fee’

By on December 11, 2014

Some very interesting transfer news to bring you this morning with reports coming out of Spain stating that Arsenal have agreed to meet Cruzeiro’s €15m asking price for midfielder Lucas Silva.

The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Brazil after putting in some outstanding performances for Cruzeiro over the past 18 months.

His potential has led to interest from Arsenal and Real Madrid, with Carlo Ancelotti recently confirming the Spanish giants were keeping a close eye on the players progress.

However, it appears we could be in the driving seat for his signature as Marca claim that Arsenal have now agreed to pay Cruzeiro’s €15m (£12m) asking price – something Madrid aren’t willing to do.

The Spanish newspaper also states that Arsenal chiefs have now opened talks with Silva’s agents in a bid to persuade the player to make the move to North London, as the midfielder recently admitted that he’d jump at the chance of signing for Madrid.

He said:

“Of course I’d like to play for Real Madrid, it would be an honour,”

“But for that to happen, an agreement between the clubs would need to be put in place first. I’m a Cruzeiro player and have so much respect for my club. If a club like Real Madrid came along, I wouldn’t turn them down.”

With Silva openly courting a move to the Bernabeu, it seems Madrid are trying to play hardball with Cruzeiro and have made it clear they won’t match their €15m valuation, as they hope that the player will force the move if the Brazilian champions don’t lower their expectations.

Cruzeiro’s president recently insisted that they won’t accept anything less than €15m, so it’s developing into something of a stand-off. As it stands, the player favours a move to Madrid, Madrid won’t pay the asking price, and Arsenal are the only club who have agreed to pay €15m for his signature.

It’s got all the making’s of a winter transfer saga but the good news is that all parties expect the players future to be resolved by the end of the months, so hopefully we’ll have a swift conclusion. Although the fact that 30% of Silva’s economic rights are owned by a third party investment company does appear to be complicating matters.

Silva is a tough tackling, mobile midfielder so he has the ingredients we need to add in the middle of the park. Whether we’ll be able to beat Madrid to his signature remains to be seen but let’s hope we can as he’d be an exciting addition to the squad.
