“Alexis Sanchez Move To Liverpool Is Done”

By on June 25, 2014

It appears Arsenal could be set to miss out on one of our key targets after Phil Thomson claimed that Alexis Sanchez to Liverpool is a ‘done deal’.

The former Liverpool captain was speaking on Irish radio station News Talk this morning when he made the claim, saying that he has spoken to people close to the club that say a deal for the 25-year-old is already ‘done’.

Thomson was initially being quizzed by the radio hosts about the Luis Suarez situation when he claimed that the controversial Uruguayan striker is likely to use this latest biting incident as a way to force a move to Spain, before going on to suggest that from what he’s heard the Sanchez deal is already agreed and it could pave the way for a potential swap deal.

You can listen to Thomson’s comment by clicking here. The interesting part is from 29.30 onwards.

Obviously if true the news will be a huge blow as there has been a lot of talk about Sanchez coming to Arsenal in recent days, with reports of Arsene Wenger holding talks with the players agent in Brazil and even speculation suggesting we’ve made an official offer, so Thomson’s revelation would be gutting.

However, as with any transfer, there is a lot of speculation and ‘In The Knows’, and I’m sure if someone else spoke to a ‘source’ over in Spain or London, they would have a completely different take on things.

The likelihood is, Liverpool, Arsenal, Juventus and probably a number of other clubs could have a deal in place with the players agent but that doesn’t mean a transfer is a ‘done deal’. Far from it.

Transfers are so complex and they can break down over the smallest of details, and it’s doubtful Barcelona would have agreed any sale before the end of the World Cup. The way Sanchez is going over in Brazil, Barca may even decide to keep hold of him or failing that, increase his price-tag but about £10m!

So I’m not too worried just yet, there’s plenty of time left and I’m hopeful we can lure Sanchez to the Emirates if he does opt for a move to England this summer.

Sincerely speaking, no deal 4 Sanchez is done anywhere.

Can’t see it happening. Liverpool are back in the CL, if they want to stay there they have to balance their books. They have made a £50m loss in each of the last 3 seasons and a Sanchez deal along with the lallana, lambert outlays will take them even further into the red.
Added to which, it would be a strange move for him to make. I see liverpool sliding back after last season’s high water mark and doubtful of repeating it.
Seems a spurious claim if you ask me…, unless of course they sell the bitey racist scumbag.

What nonsense. Being back in the champions league will totally rid them of their losses. Not to mention that most other clubs in europe have bigger losses. Liverpool are not in the red. It would not be a strange move for him at all. Why would he not join the scond best team in england? Why would he join man utd or arsenal over liverpool now? Liverpool are only going up from here. You are delusional.

Liverpool posted a loss of 50million as recent as mere weeks ago. Combined with the loss of the same amount over the two seasons previous, yes liverpool are hemorrhaging money at an alarming rate. As their books stand, had they been in the CL across the two previous seasons then they would have been subject to the same punishment handed out to psg and m city. Financial fair play my friend, look it up.
As for your assertion that being in the CL will cover those losses, unless liverpool are planning on winning the thing, it won’t cover those losses. So with the 50+million outlay being muted, they will still be left facing punitive punishment via the ffp rulings.
With no European football, less games than anybody else. No major injuries and a season being carried by Suarez it resulted in a high water mark. A small squad, European games and travel and the inevitable problems that arise from that will more than likely result in a season that fails to match what they did last year. Hence, a player of his quality, will more than likely have far better options afforded him.

Not delusional, just looking at things with logic and reason. Have a good day.

Arsenal isn’t attractive to top players like Sanchez. Everyone knows Wenger is a 2nd rate manager nowadays who won’t ever win the Champions League and probably won’t ever beat Mourinho in a single match, let alone finish above him in the league.

Sanchez would choose Liverpool above Arsenal to play with Suarez and Sturridge and compete for the title again. No one wants to play with Giroud or listen to Wenger’s excuses.

Yeah, because a club with the best stadium in the country, situated in the most desireable city in the nation, flush with cash, growing exponentially from a commercial standpoint, with a manager revered worldwide, an infrastructure second to nobody in the world and with a hundred other plus points wouldn’t be attractive to a world class player wanting to find a new stage to perform his craft.

            Stop being silly junior.

I say this not to throw a pop at Liverpool, but Arsenal are a larger, more secure, superior outfit than Liverpool are at this moment and are likely to be in the near future.
Liverpool are a club losing multi millions year on year, in breach of FFP rulings(exempt only on a technicality), playing in a crumbling stadium and reliant on a star striker guilty of cannibalism and already agitating for a move away, just like last summer.

Again, I say these things not to create friction but to demonstrate that although they have a tremendous pedigree and history, at this moment they are lagging behind Arsenal in almost every way.

Just came here as i was searching for latest news on Alexis Sanchez.Even as a Pool fan, dont think any deal is done. But comments that Pool have problem with losses is way off the mark.Their 44m loss is easily offset by the 100m that they earned in revenue this season plus the assured Champions League purse money.Without selling anyone,we will have 60m to spend so there are no issues with buying Sanchez.
P.S:Interesting to note several Arsenal fans calling Suarez by all sorts of names especially since Arsenal were ready to chew off Pool hands last year to snatch him away from us.Arsenal fans had no problem nor did their players when infact he was still serving his ban!!The hypocrisy is bewildering.Just saying…Football is the most odious sport in the world coz of its fans.Need to take lessons from tennis players and fans.

The losses allowed by UEFA, in accordance with their FFP rulings, state that no club can make a loss of more than 37million. Over the past three years, Liverpool have posted losses of £49.3m, £40.5m, and most recently £50m.

Liverpool, whether people want to accept it or not, are going to have a major problem adhering to FFP. These problems will come as early as next year.

Yes CL football will bring more money to the club. But this doesnt afford the club the opportunity to spend huge sums of money on players and at the same time hope to move further towards compliance with FFP. Especially with a small sqaud that needs further augmenting and strengthening for a season when they will have to contend with the added rigours of CL football and the travel and exertion that comes from that.

Alexis Sanchez, when you consider all these things, seems fanciful at best and out of Liverpool’s reach if they are planning for a sane and prosperous future.
Alternatively, a player of his calibre will undoubtedly have better options available to him should Barcelona choose to sell him. Arsenal, if we are in for him, would be one of those better options, in my opinion.
Taking away my obvious bias.., The reasons for this, simple.

Arsenal generate more money, have more money freely available, more secure as a concern, no heavy losses. A club only headed upwards in terms of commercial standing – thus meaning even more money, thus meaning greater opportunity for success. A brand new stadium. London etc.

By stating these things I dont do so to downplay Liverpool in any way. I just go by logic, and how I would look at it if I was a football player with a choice to make. But I guess all of this is nothing more than specture during the drought of silly season anyway. Barca would be mad to let him go. I would love to see him at the Emirates next season though, wonderful player, he really is.

As for Suarez, I called him the same names last summer and was glad that we dodged the bullet of signing him, even if it would have meant a league title. Luis Suarez is a very good footballer but he is a truly reprehensible human being with seemingly no redeming qualities. Okay, he plays football well, but he is a cheat, he is a cretin and he is a racist.
When the inevitable transfer to spain happens I shall not weep his departure.

J- Your comment “Suarez is a very good footballer but he is a truly reprehensible human being with seemingly no redeming qualities. Okay, he plays football well, but he is a cheat, he is a cretin and he is a racist.”

That comment is slanderous.. A cretin?, that’s litigious

Suarez seems to have some sort of issue, as the biting thing is not normal, I’ll give you that. But there are far worse villains in football, that have tried to purposefully end someones career with a leg breaking horror tackle. He has never done anything so sinister. He is a family man, and father, who has NEVER had any incidents of trouble off of the pitch. The same cant be said for many a footballer out there. He clearly needs some sort of help, I feel sad for him and his family, those moments of madness must be truly frightening for all involved.

As for the racist allegations, you don’t know what happened, only him and Evra does. And Evra has went around accusing more people of “racism” and to me, Evra is of questionable character.

As for a cheat? Because he occasionally dives? get real, EVERYONE does it. Because of his skills, he is one of the most fouled footballers on the planet, and because of his rep, does not get the benefit of many calls, so you’d probably dive sometimes too like him(when hes not busy scoring).

As far as his handball in the last World Cup, many, many top players have said they see nothing wrong with what he did. He competes at the highest level and plays with his heart on his sleeve.

I’m a Liverpool fan(big surprise I’m sure) and I am not excusing his biting behavior. I think he needs psychological help to deal with his impulse control. I don’t think he’s a “cretin, cheat, or racist” though.

          Good luck with your season.

Liverpools losses did not include several sponsorship deals and much of the 50 million previously spent was on removing stadium cost mostly the plans.
Under FFP stadium costs with rebuilds or upgrades are not taken into account.

Perhaps he saw Liverpool bending us over 5 – 1 last season, i think that would have pretty much made up anyones mind of who to go play for out of the two.

    • Carl

      June 25, 2014 at 10:06 pm

Liverpool have bid £25 mm on Lallana still ongoing, spent £4mm on Lambert and a deal in place for Emre Can £10 mm, Looking at left backs like Moreno who we value at £16 mm with Seville wanting close to £20 mm so looking elsewhere………i think that suggests Liverpool do have cash to spend clearly don’t know has much has you think you know regarding their finances. ‘IF’and I say ‘IF’ Barca want Suarez as rumoured is it really inconceivable that Sanchez could be offered has a make weight? suits both parties.

‘because a club with the best stadium in the country, situated in the most desireable city in the nation, flush with cash, growing exponentially from a commercial standpoint, with a manager revered worldwide, an infrastructure second to nobody in the world and with a hundred other plus points wouldn’t be attractive to a world class player wanting to find a new stage to perform his craft.’

And if your quote here is so true just one question……

Why do all your best players leave every season?? just a thought.

If Suarez gets a long global ban from the biting incident, his marketability will be seriously compromised thereby putting clubs who would want him on notice.

But Liverpool are not consistent with their success. What is your average position over the same period? Having had a good season last year the probable position next year will be lower.

You are not short in the striking department. I cannot see you guys buying Sanchez without selling Suarez. Is getting rid of Suarez really what you want? If I was a Liverpool fan I would be wanting money spent further back in the team.

Liverpool are only going up, and your not a fan… yeh.

When yous lose Suarez’s goals yous will or would see that we have a much better team, and that’s before we get the strikers we should of had last season which cost us the title. Also pool are in Europe this season, that will stretch yous, we had bad injuries whereas yous focused totally on the prem.

We won silverware and as far as i know, you dont get anything from coming second.

Thompson says he got it from tabloid people close to the club, how are these people in the know when he himself didnt have a clue. And how are they closer than he is?

Look you know when you poke at a Liverpool fan they bit (that’s what it is perhaps loui Suarez got the wrong end of the stick). The fact is Liverpool are a great club they have a great history ( what gripes me when fans LFC fans say we wine 5 euro titles half of them were just a twinkle in their fathers eye when they won the first 4), despite the history they are a club in tween a rock and a hard place. They did make their biggest income last year due to kit and sponsorship deals but still made a loss of 50m, combined with other seasonal losses, in the last 3 years it equates to 120m negietive.

Now what does this mean, Liverpool have to create an extra 50m at least per year for the next two seasons to avoid the same 40m fine and restriction afforded to man city and psg. Let’s not forget either man city and psg don’t break even next year they won’t be in Europe and there for sled back under what ever rock they came from under. For a club the physical size of Liverpool that’s near impossible, especially this season with the signings they need to make to do well in the CL, PL and win a cup to create mor revenue. Signing players for more than 10m each would be incredibly risky strategy that if they fail to produce on the field next season will sorry for the pun ” come back and bite them”.

On to Arsenal, Arsenal are undoubtably a club that every other club are worried about. They are more cash rich than any other team in the world when you take FFP into account, forget what Forbes tells you because that list is a load of toss. Yes success has been hard to come by in the last 8 season but for a perfectly good reason they decided to grow. Boy could they have chosen a worse time than when the sugar daddy’s roles into town. We couldn’t compete with transfer fees wages etc, players don’t care about success they care about money.

Man City and Chelsea had no history what so ever and look where they are now because they attracted players with money. But on the positive we challenged for the title in the first 4 of the 8 baron years. Doing this on a shoe string we lost or best players in their prime every year upto 2 years ago but this is now a thing of the past. Sagna for example is 32 and wanted silly wages which he tbh loyalty aside he wasn’t worth that especially when we could sign someone new and up and coming. Even through all this Arsenal hold the record for the most consistent team in CL history competing in it for the last 18 years in a row amazing achievement when you consider their self imposed period of austerity.

Arsenal have financial power now and those sugar daddy clubs don’t we can pay cash for players the Barca, Madrid, Chelsea’s and man city’s of this world can’t. Because of their recklessness they will struggle to compete or risk losing european competition which any club needs to attract the best players. This is where the rock and the hard place is for Liverpool ” Do they become an Arsenal for the next few years and grow despite lack of success or be like Manc Citeh and PSG are now minus the success face being pushed out of the champions league”.

For me the choice for Liverpool is simple, they don’t have the squad city have to survive on a shoe string for the next five seasons and there are grump kings of Yaya wanting to move on already.

My advise to LFC look after your future before you look back on your past

Aside from all this FFP stuff it needs to be said that Thompson’s source for the “deal is done” quote is, wait for it, the newspaper seller outside Anfield who apparently is “close to the club”.

That should tell you everything you need to know about the deal being done!!

Next season United will become stronger and will replace Arsenal in the 4th spot..Liverpool will sign Sanchez, Shaqiri and will probably finish 2nd/3rd..Many are forgetting that Liverpool now have a proper structure in place and FSG will never overspend.Plus we’re expanding the stadium slowly which will bring in more revenue in the long term..The only way for Liverpool is up.

    “Liverpool are on the up”

Last season is more of a fluke than on the up.

Let’s see how LFC cope with UCL games and travel. (They were knocked out early in all the cups)

44 games LFC played all season, 38 of those were one game a weak PL games.

I would be worried if LFC sell Suarez for Sanchez , Suarez carried them. Conceded 50 goals in 38 game and sign more attackers. Makes sense
