Arsenal Close To Securing £20m Striker Deal – Reports
According to reports over the weekend, Arsenal are closing in on a £20m deal to bring Mario Balotelli back to the Premier League.
The 23-year-old striker has grown unsettled in Italy after being subjected to racist abuse since making a £17m move to AC Milan from Manchester City 18 months ago, and the Serie A club have now decided to cash in.
The player has been offered around Europe’s top clubs but the Daily Mail claim that Arsenal sources have confirmed our interest and we are working hard behind the scenes to piece together a £20m deal after Arsene Wenger made the controversial hitman his first choice striker target.
A deal is believed to be close with Balotelli understood to be keen on moving to London, although it remains to be seen whether we’ll be able to get anything over the line before the World Cup kicks off on Thursday.
With so many transfer rumours flying about these days, it’s difficult to know what to believe, but I’d be delighted if the Daily Mail have this one right. Balotelli can be a nightmare sometimes and he always seems to find himself in trouble, but his talent is undeniable.
MORE: Arsenal hold striker talks
People forget he’s still young – just 23 – so he’s not fully matured and if anyone can tame the Italian international, it’s Arsene Wenger. We obviously need at least one striker this summer and £20m for Balotelli sounds like an excellent piece of business if we can pull it off.
He has all the attributes we need for a striker. He’s powerful, can play with his back to goal and has pace to get in behind and stretch defences. He’s a good finisher and also has experience in the Premier League, so I think he’d be an excellent addition to the squad.
