Striker Deal Back ON As Agent Heads To London For Arsenal Talks

By on January 22, 2014

The future of Mirko Vucinic has taken yet another twist as his agent is due to fly in to London today to hold talks with Arsenal about a move to the Emirates, according to reports in Italy.

Vucinic has endured a whirlwind few days that’s seen proposed moves to Arsenal and Inter Milan fall through in quick succession.

It all started on Monday when reports suggested the strikers agent, Alessandro Lucci, was due in London on Tuesday to hold formal talks with Arsenal after we expressed our interest in taking him on loan from Juventus for the rest of the season.

The Serie A champions favoured a permanent sale and Lucci was forced to cancel his plans at the last minute after Inter Milan came in and offered midfielder Fredy Guarin in exchange for the 30-year-old.

The two players soon agreed personal terms and the deal was on the verge of being completed but a set of hard core Inter fans demanded to meet with the clubs owners to protest against the signing of Vucinic. Shockingly, fan-power worked and Inter announced in an official statement yesterday that they had pulled out of the deal, leaving Vucinic in limbo.

However, reports in Italy are now claiming that the strikers agent will fly in to London today to resume talks with us and Juve are believed to be willing to consider our loan offer after being messed about by Inter.

It’s a ridiculous situation but not uncommon during the transfer windows. Deals sometimes take several twists and turns before being resolved and I wouldn’t be surprised if another club came in to hijack our move again, but it seems for now we’re back in the driving seat.

Vucinic hasn’t been at his best this season and it has to be a worry that Inter fans were so against his signing that they stormed the clubs headquarters to demand a meeting with the president. Surely he can’t be that bad?!

We need to get a striker in before the end of the month and Arsene Wenger appears to be looking for a short-term deal as his top targets aren’t available until the summer, but I hope we aren’t trying to sign Vucinic just for the sake of getting someone in.

Whoever we get needs to be able to push Olivier Giroud for a spot in the first team. We’d all love a Diego Costa to arrive but realistically we won’t be able to land those sorts of players this month, and if Vucinic is the best Wenger can get his hands on, then we’ll just have to hope it works out.

Do you think Vucinic will be good enough to make us champions?
