Draxler Latest: Attacker Off To Munich, Germans Say Move Could Happen ‘Soon’

By on January 15, 2014

There is lots of talk this morning about Arsenal stepping up their interest in German sensation Julian Draxler.

We’ve been strongly linked with the 20-year-old attacker in the past and speculation has intensified over the past few days that Arsene Wenger wants to sign him this month following the injury to Theo Walcott.

The Mirror are claiming that the boss has already been in touch with Schalke and has made it clear he’s willing to pay the players buy-out clause of £35m now, and even though the clause can only be activated in the summer, it’s believed the Germans will find it difficult to resist such an offer.

The newspaper believes that Wenger plans to convert the attacking midfielder into a striker, much in the same way he did with Robin Van Persie, and the player is understood to be keen on the move after speaking with our German contingent about life in north London.

Reports coming out of Germany are also suggesting that Draxler could be heading for the exit door, with media outlet WELT stating that a deal could go through ‘soon’ as long as Schalke can secure the services of Tottenham’s Lewis Holtby as a replacement.

However, just as Arsenal fans began dreaming of another big-money German international arriving at the Emirates, we’re hearing reports that the proposed deal is in jeopardy as Draxler is ruled out for 3 months with a ruptured tendon.

According to the Daily Mail, the attacking midfielder is heading to Munich on Thursday to meet with specialist Hans-Muller Wohlfahrt and isn’t expected to be fit again until mid-March.

If their prognosis is accurate, it virtually ends any hope of Arsenal signing him this month. We’re highly unlikely to spend £35m on an injured player with no guarantees he’s going to fully recover.

Let’s hope the Mail have got it wrong and Draxler isn’t out for that long. He would be an excellent signing if we could pull it off, although I’m not sure about Wenger’s plan to turn him into a striker. Not immediately anyway.

Let’s see how this develops over the coming days, fingers crossed for some good news.

I think the reported injury to Draxler is a ploy to confuse our rivals. Some these desperate Managers always want to buy the players we want ! I think the deal is still on !

Arsenal are looking for striker not something else what about diago costa, morata. This is one thing i dont like Asene wenger befor liverpool sign suarez arsenal should have made thier choice but this same manager relunctantly refuse.Spend money and get what u want.If arsenal give him new contract without winning any thing that means in the next 20years no cup will be found in arsenal.
