Diaby Offers Positive Injury Update

By on November 13, 2013

Forgotten midfielder Abou Diaby has spoken out on his desire to play for Arsenal again after confirming he’s off crutches and should be running again in a few weeks.

The Frenchman has seen his career decimated by a series of serious injuries and he was ruled out in March for up to nine months after rupturing a ligament in his knee in training.

He was then dealt a sickening blow when he suffered a set back in September and was ruled out for a further three-to-four months, and rumours began that he might be set to hang up his boots.

However, Diaby has confirmed that he has now ditched the crutches and hopes to be running again in a few weeks as he starts the long road to recovery from his latest injury. He told L’Equipe:

“I have come off the crutches. Now I have to start walking again!

“I will start running again in a few weeks.

“I want to take my time with everything to ensure that it all goes smoothly.”

The 27-year-old retweeted this article from his Twitter account and vowed that despite the setbacks, he’s determined to return for Arsenal:

You’ve got to give it to him, he’s certainly no quitter. A lesser man would have hung up his boots a long time ago but Diaby seems determined to get back to fitness and earn another contract (his current deal expires at the end of the season).

He’s a hugely talented player and it’s a real shame his career has been blighted by injury problems. Whether his latest comeback attempt is a successful one or not, he seems destined to never truly fulfill his vast potential.

Watching Abou highlights make me want to cry.

He has immense talent if only he could stay fit he would be better than Viera.

better than Viera? I’m guessing you haven’t seen viera play. Even if diaby performs he’s still not going to have the heart of a lion and the ability to snap players in two and influence an entire dressing room. your comments are just nonsense

Calm down now. I’m pretty sure even Wenger has come out before and said Diaby is a more technically gifted player. Granted that it’s too late for him to reach the heights of Viera and he certainly isn’t the complete player like he was. I wouldn’t completely rubbish somebodies opinion that he had the potential to be better.

A lesser man wouldv’e hung up his boots!!! are you kidding me or what? He’s picking up a minimum 30 grand a week for sitting on his arse and he’s been doing it for years! Winston Bogarde in disguise.

Don, don’t know if you work for yourself or an organization, but how would you feel if you got injured on a job and the organization you work for decided to let you go because you no longer can do the work?

    @Dom,
The typical remark from an ignorant moron.
Diaby has never been satisfied just to draw his pay.
He is determined to play football again and to reward Arsenal FC for their continued faith in him.

Well, i’m not amazed this topic has drawn mixed opinions from Gunners’ fans. No doubts about the qualities of Diaby which is often blighted by severe and consistent injuries. But i personally believe he invites injuries by holding onto the ball much longer than necessary. This is the weak aspect of Wilshere’s game too. But fortunately Arsenal FC have a pedigree of supporting injured players (most notably Eduardo, Ramsey and RVP) with the hope that they will come back stronger and contribute to the team. However, when it is payback time, i hope Diaby doesn’t do an RVP on us.

“Decimated” is almost not strong enough. He would like to get back to “decimated”. I will never forget that tackle on Diabys ankle.

    The game was over
The ref was about to blow full time
The result was not in doubt
Diaby was ambling on the sidelines near the half way line

Why did you do it Dan? Why? Why????

It is a real shame about this hugely gifted player hope 1 day he comes back and gets a hell of a good, well deserved run in the side injury free. You cant help but doubt very much this will happen.I still remember that game at sunderland when he got badly injured yrs ago and was injury prone since,Dan Smith was it?,a dud player who got his moment of fame by cowardly wrecking our man in a game they were losing 0.4 i think.thanks.
