Arsenal intensify efforts to sign Atletico’s Julian Alvarez

By on April 16, 2026

Arsenal have reportedly accelerated their efforts to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, as per Caught Offside.

Since moving to the Spanish capital from Manchester City, the Argentinian international has showcased his goal-scoring prowess in recent campaigns.

After making 37 goal contributions across all competitions last term, Alvarez has netted 18 goals and registered nine assists in 46 appearances in all tournaments this campaign.

Moreover, the South American has helped his side reach the Copa del Rey final and the Champions League semi-final. In both competitions, Los Rojiblancos defeated Barcelona in the previous round.

Alongside showcasing his qualities in club football, Alvarez has also proven his worth on the international stage, helping his country win two Copa Americas and a World Cup.

Now, Caught Offside claim that although the Gunners have enjoyed a stellar campaign this term, Arsenal are planning to sign a new elite striker and have intensified their efforts to sign Alvarez.

Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are also interested in the Atletico star. But Arsenal have started working to build a strong relationship with the player and his representatives to have an edge in this race.

Alvarez to Arsenal

With Alvarez’s existing deal set to run until 2030, Atletico have no intention of letting him leave, but they might change their stance should they receive an astronomical offer of around £104m.

The report state that Arsenal are even planning to sell Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus to raise funds and create room for Alvarez in the squad.

Apart from Jesus and Havertz, Arsenal currently have Viktor Gyokeres as an option to deploy in the centre-forward position. However, the Brazilian and the German have struggled with fitness problems in recent years.

On the other hand, Gyokeres has found it difficult to showcase his best in the Premier League since joining from Sporting last summer.

So, purchasing a new striker to continue challenging on all fronts next season would be the right decision for Arsenal, and Alvarez would be a great coup should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming summer transfer window.
