Arsenal showing ‘strong interest’ in Leicester star Jeremy Monga

Arsenal are showing ‘strong interest’ in signing Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga next summer, according to the Telegraph.
After finding the net during a 2–1 loss to Preston North End last August, Monga became Leicester’s youngest-ever goalscorer.
At just 16 years and 37 days old, that goal also made him the youngest scorer in Championship history, surpassing the previous record set by Jude Bellingham, who had achieved the feat for Birmingham City in 2019 at 16 years and 63 days.
Last season, he became the second youngest Premier League debutant behind Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri when he appeared as a substitute during Leicester’s 3–0 defeat to Newcastle United at just 15 years and 271 days.
Throughout the current season, the left winger has stood out as one of Leicester’s few bright sparks despite their struggles, with the club currently positioned 23rd and facing the threat of relegation.
Although many of his 28 appearances across all competitions have come from the bench, he has still demonstrated impressive qualities, completing 84.0% of his passes and 66.7% of his long balls, while also contributing defensively with 29 recoveries and 10 tackles.
According to the Telegraph, Arsenal are showing ‘strong interest’ in signing Monga from Leicester ahead of other interested clubs.
‘Strong interest’
The England U19 international is widely regarded as one of England’s most exciting prodigies, and the Gunners have been keeping close tabs on the winger ahead of a possible move to the Emirates Stadium.
However, Leicester view Monga as a significant part of their rebuild next season, according to the report, so Arsenal will need to submit a significant offer well above his £8m Transfermarkt valuation to change their stance.
Since Andrea Berta stepped in as sporting director, Arsenal have not only prioritised strengthening the first-team squad but have also intensified their push in youth recruitment, already securing several promising prospects for the academy.
Before the winter transfer window shut, the club added Colombian twins Edwin Quintero and Holger Quintero, along with Jaden Dixon and Evan Mooney.
Opportunities have also been handed out by Mikel Arteta to some of Hale End’s brightest talents this season, with Marli Solomon the latest to make an appearance in the 3–0 Champions League win over Club Brugge.
As the club continues to rebuild, Monga would be another significant addition to an increasingly exciting pool of young talent gradually integrating into the first team.
