Wenger: “We’re Looking To Buy 2 Or 3 New Players, Possibly More”
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been in front of the media today for his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash with Aston Villa and he’s predictably been quizzed on his transfer plans.
After a summer of frustration that’s seen us miss out on a number of big-name signings (so far), the boss has acknowledged the squad is thin and confirmed the club are continuing to work hard to bring in new player, and are aiming to bring in at least 2 or 3 new faces before the window slams shut on the 2nd September.
Wenger: "I don't disagree that we are a bit light at the moment. We are looking to strengthen our squad" #AFCvAVFC

Wenger: "We're looking more for quality than for numbers. We would like two or three players, if possible more" #AFCvAVFC

I think it’s safe to say that 2/3 players is the bare minimum we need at this point. Arteta and Vermaelen’s injuries show just how thin the squad is at present. Another injury in defence or midfield and we’re struggling big-time.
The big question is why we’ve waited until the final days of the window to do any business. The season starts tomorrow and we have two huge games with Fenerbache coming up and we’ve got the weakest Arsenal squad in living memory to choose from. It just doesn’t make any sense.
Of course we’ve made bids and narrowly missed out on players, but on the whole the summer has been a shambles. But we’ve still got 17 days to save the season, let’s ope we can get by with what we have until the new faces come in.
Who would you like the club to sign?

Manager and board are a joke and us supporters are as much to blame for accepting low standards.

i pretty much predicted that those words would be the words that he used when i was moaning on various blogs last night. lo and behold! do none of the media ask questions like “why have you waited so long to do nothing in the market when earlier in the summer your chief executive said you would aim to get your business done early?”. has the mad dictator got our press department to ban questions like that? what still amazes me is that there are apologists out there who are deluding themselves by thinking that wenger has got a secret magic hat up his sleeve from which he will pull an incredibly talented footballing rabbit. his record in the transfer market in recent years has been awful so i wouldn’t get your hopes up there. be afraid. very afraid.

This summer’s transfer business (he lack of it) reminds us yet again that Mr. Wenger, the Manager of Arsenal FC is a BIG RED VAGINA. A DICK-HEAD finally set to plunge the club into an irreversible “DEPTH” of disaster. Any more queries as to why Van Persie, Fabregas & Co took to their heels? A fish, they say, rots from its head! Arsenal have no head (Manager) – rather, the club has a DICK-HEAD!

You show total disrespect for a great manager.
Save your remarks until the transfer window is shut, and then you can eat your words.

This year hasnt bee all doom and gloom in the transfer market. We haven’t sold any good players from our starting XI, and we have got rid of a lot of dead wood. So with my calculations arsenal have about 100mil to spend. We do need streantherning our XI, especially if we’re to compete on 4 fronts.
My concern is why players havent/wouldn’t want to join arsenal. We play a beautiful style football, have an amazing stadium, have a great team of players and are in the CL. We are up there trying to compete for silver wear, have a stable club so when financial fair play rules we will be a major force.
The reasons I can think of is because we haven’t won any silverware for 8 years, and top class players may dout our credentials to win anything. Our wage structure isn’t as high as other teams, and arsenal value of players wage is below par to other clubs. Also the valuations of a player, where were to stubborn to raise our price by 1-5mil and miss out on our targets, and not striking fast in the window to secure our list of players have undone us.
I do think we will sign some more players personally id get Fallaine 23mil (everton, only 25, CDM) would be a massive statement and a great player, Soko 8-10mil ( PSG, 20yr old, Frenchman CB) as backup, Ericksen 15mil (Ajax 21yrs, Versitile Midfielder) leaving the rest for a world class ST and other additions

I agree with Prodigy that the squad is strong but thin which is a point of vulnerability; hence the need for more signings. Losing out on targets is not a tragedy; that’s part of the trade. Our fans need to appreciate that there is no logic in these things! Otherwise how else can you explain Gustavo snubbing Arsenal for Wolfsburg which was 11th in Bundesliga? He is Brazilian and his interest is not champions league or such stuff but to be in the Brazilian team at the world cup, so any team which can offer him regular football is welcome. I believe Wenger could not give him a blank cheque of playing all the time. Most likely he feared the competition at Arsenal! By the way it is only some Arsenal fans who don’t see the quality of their team. Remember this is the only team that beat Bayern Munich in champions league knockout stage. Don’t forget that Bayern beat Arsenal only on away goals rule but they had similar points and goals! This is the team that went on to beat Barcelona 4-0 and 3-0 respectively! Do you, therefore, doubt Arsenal’s quality? Do you think the preseason over Man city was a fluke? No it was well deserved. Just wait and see what happens this season if only we sign those few quality players.

Spot on mate. Unfortunately some so-called supporters can only see what they want to see. I am old enough to remember going from 1953 to 1970 without a trophy and there wasn’t all this crap being written then.
Whether we like it or not the Premiership is split between the top three teams who are buying success and the rest of them who are playing for trophies.

I dont think AW will ever change. The club has been crying for some quality and all he has done is sit on his arse talking BS about buying quality and not quantity. In the last weeks of a transfer window the chances of us securing some real quality is thin.Know why?How would the selling club fill the void left by a classy player so late in the window?unless it is arsenal(who sell players that have years on their contracts), not many clubs do that. Unless we buy atleast some replenishments you can see theo, jack, giroud, kos and rambo saying goodbye to us next year..

i really pray to god that none of first team member get injured cause we really do not have any significant replacement. this is the funniest transfer summer of arsenal since years. it is now official we have lost our credibility in the market. and the funniest of all man utd prefers to sell rooney to arsenal than chelsea cause they dont see us as title runners. the bottle has not bottom.

It’s been always easy for wenger to fool the fans. He said this ’cause he wants you to attend the tomorrow game. Thumb me down if he doesn’t say we’ve tried but they weren’t accessible with his down turned lip dragging it over the microphone.
