Report: Wenger Plotting Double Swoop On Dutch Giants
Arsene Wenger is eyeing a double swoop on PSV for highly-rated duo Georginio Wijnaldum and Zakaria Bakkali, according to reports today.
Reports in Holland are claiming that the boss sent scout Peter Clarke to watch PSV’s opening game against Den Haag last weekend to run-the-rule over the pair, and we’re now expected to step up our interest during the final two weeks of the transfer window.
Wijnaldumis the more established of the two with the 22-year-old attacking midfielder already making over 230 senior appearances during his career – scoring an impressive 63 goals and providing 29 assists.
Bakkali is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in Holland after becoming the youngster ever player to score a hat-trick in the Eredivisie, bagging a treble in just his second appearance for PSV last season.
The 17-year-old right winger earned his first call-up to the senior Belgian squad for Wednesday’s friendly with France and rejected the chance to join Man City in 2011.
A deal for the pair could be difficult though as they’ve both committed themselves to PSV for next season but it remains to be seen whether we’ll be able to persuade the Dutch giants to cash in on the excited duo.
They would almost certainly be nothing more than squad players if they did make the move to north London this summer, but with how thin our squad currently is, we’re desperate for more options.
Let’s see what the boss can do in these final few days. It’s almost unthinkable we wont bring in at least 3 players, considering how many players we’ve let go so far this summer.
