Arsenal Blow, Suarez Admits Defeat With Liverpool “100% Confident” Over Clause

By on August 1, 2013

Our chances of signing Luis Suarez appear to have taken a hit today with several newspapers claiming the striker has admitted defeat in his dispute with Liverpool over his buy-out clause.

It’s believed we submitted the unusual bid of £40,000,001 last week after being told by Suarez’s advisers that any bid over £40m would automatically trigger a buy-out clause in the players contract. This would make sense and would explain why we submitted the slightly antagonising bid of £1 over £40m.

But Liverpool rejected the bid, insisting they were under no obligation to sell for ANY price and the clause simply meant they had to inform the striker a bid in excess of £40m had been made.

Reports last week suggested Suarez was prepared to take the case to a Premier League arbitration hearing in order to force through a move, which would have been excellent news for Arsenal. Even if he didn’t win the case he would have kicked up enough fuss that him staying at Anfield would have been almost impossible.

However, the Mirror are one of several newspapers who’ve reported that the Uruguayan has admitted defeat and acknowledges that the clause is not a buy-out clause and he wont be taking the matter up with the Premier League.

An source close to Liverpool’s American owners told the Mirror:

“We are 100 per cent confident – there is absolutely no obligation to sell and that is very clear,”

“We’ve all examined the clause in detail. All it obliges is good faith negotiations about Luis’s future.”

So, it turns out Suarez’s advisers got it wrong and misinterpreted the exact wording of the clause, leaving us without a world class striker and we’ve p*ssed off Liverpool in the process making any future negotiations much more difficult.

It’s now likely we’ll need to bid in excess of £50m to land Suarez and I’m not convinced Arsene Wenger will sanction such a bid. It sounds like we’ve been led on a bit here by Suarez’s advisers. They must have given us confidence that the buy-out clause would come into effect for us to pass up the opportunity to sign Gonzalo Higuain, and now we face the very real possibility of missing out on both players.

There is still the chance that Suarez could hand in a transfer request which should force Liverpool to lower their demands. This is the only way I see us getting him but it’s still going to cost us far more than we initially expected.

Suarez is unlikely to hand in a transfer request and pass up around £5m in loyalty bonuses unless we promise to make that up to him with a signing on fee. So if Liverpool’s asking price now is £50m, if Suarez hands in a transfer request the Merseysiders could sell for £45m (as they’ll save £5m in loyalty bonuses), we pay the player a hefty signing on fee and everyone’s a winner. Well, except Arsene who’d probably have a heart attack at spending that kind of money!

So the ball looks to be in Suarez’s court. If he wants a move to play Champions League football that badly, it looks like he’ll have to hand in a transfer request. Over to you Luis…..

just face facts your not getting him, to make Liverpool sell him to a rival for 4th place, arsenal would have to spend really stupid money which we all know arsene wont spend. if real Madrid came in for him now and offered same as arsenal 40 mill-ish I think lfc would take it, but u lot would have to pay lot more

I don’t see why Liverpool would drop their asking price just because a transfer request is submitted. If the buying club wants to pay the player a signing on fee, that’s their problem. Liverpool will still insist on their valuation being met. No deductions!

exactly – what on earth are Arsenal on for God’s sake? He has 3 years left, he has shown zero loyalty so there is no way in the world we’ll give him £5m and there is no way we will entertain anymore bids unless a written transfer request is submitted, so yeah the ball is in Suarez’s court – hand in the request or get back into line rat boy!
(tbh I would take the £55m and run – Suarez is a liabilty and would rather him leave the club, but Arseanl have annoyed us so much , they will have to pay through the nose)

“So if Liverpool’s asking price now is £50m, if Suarez hands in a transfer request the Merseysiders could sell for £45m (as they’ll save £5m in loyalty bonuses)”

absolutely deluded; the price woudl be £55m, AND he would have to hand in a transfer request so we wouldn’t have to pay a “loyalty” bonus. Why the **** woudl LFC want to make things easier for you to sign him by lowering the price to take this into account??? No mate, LFC will want £55m in cash and upfront, then you can pay him whatever signing on fee you like. Rodgers said that it woudl have to match at least the Cavanni fee so go figure. Keep dreaming you deluded fool – you’ve p!ssed us right off and we will take you to the cleaners on this. So pay up £55m or shut up

Now it is good times for LFC to sell out Luis Suarez. He have high resale value and ver worth it to sell him with higher offer.Arsenal look like not very serious and never having enough money to sign Suarez.Stinggy clubs will scare to break account bank for wolrd class players.Hopefully Chelsea will come and get act faster to grab suarez again. They able can meet asking price for suarez.£80 million will be good offer and can break another british transfer record. With £80 million, LFC can able to sign in Michu to be partner with Fernando Torres.

Y’all are deluded! Why the fuss about selling Suarez? U have bought players from other clubs this summer. They didn’t request for an arm & a leg. U can’t offer what the guy wants … Champions League! Just let d guy go. Liverpool is not a slavery camp… 40m is adequate valuation for the player.

I’m surprised that Wenger of all people has kept all his eggs of trophies on Suarez basket, Arsenal can’t spend up to £50m on one player,it’s not in our culture. Liverpool knows how to extort money through their big players who may not even perform when they leave Anfield.. Arsenal is where they are today by signing 3 players at a time after loosing 8-2 to ManU, they didn’t cost Arsenal too much. I advise Wenger to use his £40m bid for Suarez to buy 2 good strikers before it’s too late.
