Chelsea Make Contact With Madrid Over Arsenal Target Gonzalo Higuain

By on July 15, 2013

It appears Arsenal have some stiff competition for the signature of Gonzalo Higuain with Sky Italy claiming Chelsea have made contact with Real Madrid about the striker.

After weeks of speculation and negotiations where we’ve gone from being on the cusp of Higuain signing and him travelling over to London for a medical, to being told we’ve not even put in an offer, to Arsene Wenger putting the deal on hold while he turned his attention to Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, it appears this saga has taken another twist.

According to Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri, Sky Italy are reporting that Chelsea have made contact with Real Madrid to enquire about signing Higuain.

If true, this is seriously bad news and a nightmare scenario many Gooners have been fearing. I, like many other Arsenal fans, have called for the club to concentrate on getting the Higuain deal done while we had the chance and forget about trying to sign Suarez – which is highly unlikely to happen in the end.

It was pretty obvious that another big club would join the chase for the Argentinean hitman eventually, with Chelsea and Manchester City the likeliest candidates after missing out on Edinson Cavani, and sure enough, here we are.

Chelsea will probably be able to offer more money than we can and you could argue that they are a more appealing option to the player as Higuain has played under Mourinho in Spain for the last three years and lets face it, they’ve been winning trophies regularly in recent years.

I really hope Sky Italy have got this one wrong because if Higuain ends up going to Chelsea after everything that’s gone on over the last couple of weeks, there are going to be some very angry Gooners around. It’s going to be just like the Juan Mata case where we’ll regret letting a world class talent join our rivals and have to see him tearing it up week-in, week-out knowing he should have been doing it for us.

So fingers crossed this report is bo*llocks, because for everything we read in the papers it’s extremely unlikely we’ll end up buying Suarez and there aren’t many better striker available than Higuain this summer.

It would be a strange move bearing in mind he wants to leave Real because Mourinho wasn’t playing him…

Even if the report is true there is no chance Higuain would go to Chelsea. After being on the bench for the last two years Higuain, dislikes Mourinho, and would never play for him.

If higuain ends up @ chelsea like how it happened with marta then wenger and gazidis should consider removing themselves from arsenal.they are just a bunch of lousy liers.they work for the other teams pointing players pretending to bid.the fans should return any season tkts purchased

Taj: you are a gullible knee jerk reactor. Everyone is out for stories and clicks and now is the time got them, during the off season.
I always thought that we offered to buy him and only us but Madrid have always thought what will city, Chelsea offer cos they can spend more and are holding out by touting Gonz to others. We get out bid a lot you know.

Yes we do because we can’t wrap up deals. But I believe we did not even make a bid for gonzo just as perez said. Before you say Perez is a liar explain to me why the idiot arsene or even gazidis has not come out to say we did bid but this is what RM have done. It’s simple Perez did not want to be part of the game wenger & co are playing with their fans in order to fool them in to thinking we are about to wrap up gonzo deal. Arsenal will sign no body even diaby is being kept on the roster so why was wenger praising felaini so much to make us believe he wanted to sign him but his love child diaby will be like a new signing. Today cesc & felaini are both linked with Manure and that will be absolute devastating for us because you will see arsene sitting back silently and not even exercise the buy back clause for cesc while the gooners will be crying in anger & astonishment.

Wake up guys this is the reality we have an ass for a manager and a board who don’t give a crap about its fans or winning

Tell me if Wenger has ever come out to tell us the names of players he intends to sign! You remember the cases of Poldoski and Cazorla?………….pls be patient, we will definitely get quality signings in needed departments after the mass exodus from both the main and the reserve teams. Gunners till I die!

Here we go again, total speculation concluding with another dig at Arsenal. At what point will you (and many others) stop guessing and then criticising the club. You have no idea whatsoever about what has been said between clubs, players, agents. Just support the club for a change instead of crticising without evidence at every opportunity.

I agree with you. Total speculation! Speculations, speculations and speculations! Thiago Alcantra was speculated to be heading for Man. United for medicals after agreeing personal terms, the next minute, he signed for Bayern Munich. Wonderful!

    @mac
Nope. Not nearly as you said. It was Mou who put Gonzo as second option over Benzema. Gonzo must not forget about that. We are the best option for him to be main striker. Not Chelsea or ManCity. Just look at his competitor, in Chelsea there are Demba Ba and Torres. In ManCity there are Aguero, and Dzeko, and possibly our ex top target Jojo. If Gonzo remain in RM he will compete with Benzema, Morata, and possibly Suarez. All together fight for one place only. Now, Gonzo must decide wisely. Become number one or he’ll be warming the bench.
