Arsenal Linked With Shock Swoop On Barcelona, Player Tempted By Move

Some intriguing transfer news to bring you this evening with reports suggesting that Arsenal are eyeing a shock swoop for Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets.
The Spanish international has been with Barca his entire professional career having come through the youth ranks before making his first team debut back in 2008.
He’s gone on to make over 330 appearances for the Catalans and has won a whole host of trophies including four La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies.
However, despite Barca planning fresh contract talks, the Express suggest that the 26-year-old may now be eyeing a new challenge and is tempted by a move to the Premier League.
The report claims that Arsenal are monitoring the defensive midfielders situation closely and are prepared to launch an audacious move next summer.
But understandably we’ll face stiff competition if he does seek a move away from the Nou Camp, with the likes of Manchester United, PSG and Bayern Munich also keen.
The newspaper likens the situation to Victor Valdes, who left Barca on a free transfer after 19 years service when his contract expired in the summer.
Obviously Busquets would be a DREAM signing and would fill a position we desperately need to strengthen, but I fear we wouldn’t be able to compete with the clubs that would be interested if he wanted a move next summer.
We might be able to pay the transfer fee, but there are a number of clubs in Europe who’ll offer much higher wages than us and the chance to compete for top honours – which we haven’t done for years.
So while I’d give my left nut to see Busquets come to Arsenal, there’s very little chance this will happen any time soon.
