Arsenal ‘Close To Agreeing Terms’ With Brazilian Holding Midfielder

Reports over the weekend claimed that Arsenal are close to agreeing terms with Spartak Moscow midfielder Romulo over a proposed January move.

Romulo is believed to be unsettled in Russia after struggling to make an impact following his £6m move from Vasco in 2012.

The 24-year-old suffered a serious knee injury which saw him miss much of last season and he’s failed to establish himself as a regular since returning to full fitness.

Rumours of a move back to Brazil have been mooted but the Express claim that we’ve now moved into pole position for his signature after holding talks over a potential deal this winter.

The newspaper suggests that terms are close to being agreed with the players camp, but it’s not known what kind of money Spartak are looking for.

Romulo has previously been linked with a move to the Emirates with speculation in October saying that we were in talks about paying £9.5m and giving them Yaya Sanogo on loan until the end of the season.

It’s not clear if we’re still pressing ahead with that potential deal but the Express seem to think we’re close to agreeing personal terms with the player.

Romulo is a proper defensive midfielder who loves to make tackles and is useful on the ball, so he has the kind of characteristics we need to add to the team.

However, there must be concerns over his condition and form since his injury and I’d worry about bringing in a player who can’t make the breakthrough at Spartak Moscow.

He was once heralded as a star for the future and has 8 caps for Brazil before his injury, so hopefully we can get him back to his best if we do end up signing him.

Let’ see how things develop over the coming weeks but I really hope Arsene doesn’t hang about and he looks to bring in a couple of players early, as we desperately need to strengthen in midfield and at the back.
