Wenger Confirms Man Utd Among Teams To Have Bid For Vermaelen
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Manchester United are among the teams who have submitted a bid for unsettled defender Thomas Vermaelen.
The Belgian defender has grown increasingly frustrated at having to sit on the sidelines after losing his place in the starting eleven 18 months ago.
With just a year left on his current deal, the 28-year-old is expected to be sold this summer and United and Barcelona have been strongly linked in recent weeks.
Rumours suggest that Vermaelen has already agreed personal terms over a potential switch to Old Trafford while Barca officials are believed to have been in London on Wednesday trying to thrash out a deal.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference this afternoon ahead of Sunday’s Community Shield, Arsene has now confirmed that United are among the clubs who have bid for the centre-back, but he’s admitted he would rather see his skipper move abroad.
French journalist Jules Lauren confirmed the bosses comments:
Wenger confirms bids have been made for Vermaelen. "Manchester United are part of the group (of bidders)" and added "he could leave.". #afc

Wenger again on Vermaelen: " We have offers from abroad and ideally i would rather sell him to a club abroad."

I hope we can reach an agreement with Barcelona as it would be a shame to see yet another player join one of our rivals.
Either way, Vermaelen’s exit is almost guaranteed and fingers crossed we have a suitable replacement lined-up.
