Confirmed: Arsenal Announce Bacary Sagna Has Joined Man City
Arsenal have confirmed this afternoon that Bacary Sagna has agreed to join Manchester City on a free transfer when his contract expires on June 30.
We’ve been unable to agree terms over an extension with the 31-year-old, despite holding several rounds of talks with his representatives over the past few months.
Reports claim our final offer was a two-year deal worth around £90,000-a-week with the option for a third year. However, City have blown us out the water with a huge three-year contract worth an estimates £140,000-a-week.
Understandably we weren’t prepared to match that offer and the club have now confirmed on Arsenal.com that Sagna will join City on a free at the end of the month.
A statement read:
Bacary Sagna has agreed to join Manchester City after his contract expires with Arsenal on June 30.
Sagna, 31, signed for Arsenal from Auxerre in the summer of 2007 and went on to make a total of 284 appearances for the club.
An integral part of Arsenal’s defence over the past seven seasons, the France international brought his time with the Gunners to a fitting close last month when he helped the team win the FA Cup in his final match.
Everyone at Arsenal Football Club would like to thank Bacary for his fantastic contribution, and wish him all the best for the future.
It’s capped off a tough 24 hours following the news that Cesc Fabregas has joined Chelsea, so the pressure is on boss Arsene Wenger to not only replace Sagna with a top class right-back but also strengthen other areas of the squad this summer.
No hard feelings Bac, you gave us seven excellent years but sadly you’ve decided to warm City’s bench for a few extra quid.

Bench or not, he’s joined a bigger club.
