Arsenal Officials Held Positive Draxler Talks In Germany Last Week – Report
A familiar name is once again being linked with a move to Arsenal with reports today claiming that club official flew to Germany last week to hold talks over a move for Julian Draxler.
The 20-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates over the past 12 months and we were understood to have been close to doing a deal in January only for Arsene Wenger to pull the plug after refusing to meet Schalke’s £37m asking price.
However, Football Direct News are reporting in their ‘exclusive’ that we have renewed our interest and made contact with Schalke last week to resume negotiations.
The report claims that Arsenal officials flew out to Germany last week to watch Draxler captain his country during a 0-0 draw with Poland and held positive talks with the player, his agent and Schalke representatives about a summer switch to north London after the match.
Now, as exciting as this all sounds, I’m hugely skeptical about this report as Football Direct News haven’t got the best reputation when it comes to ‘exclusives’ such as this.
They may have picked up their information from another source or foreign newspaper, in which case there could be something in it, but for now I’m taking it with a pinch of salt until I read it in a more trustworthy outlet.
Also, the youngster was quoted earlier this week as saying he will still be at Schalke next season and most of the daily newspapers seem to think we’ve gone cold on the player and moved on to other targets.
As great a talent as Draxler is, right now there are other area’s of the team that need strengthened as a priority, so perhaps it wouldn’t be wise to spend over £35m on an attacking midfielder when we need a world class striker and defensive midfielder.
