Arsenal eye move to sign Newcastle’s Tino Livramento
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento, as per Football Insider.
The Gunners currently have Jurrien Timber and Ben White as specialist right-back options. Moreover, Ezri Konsa can provide cover in this position if needed.
However, White has had numerous fitness problems in recent years and has entered the final 18 months of his current contract. On the other hand, Timber has also had a few injury issues since joining from Ajax Amsterdam.
Konsa, meanwhile, has featured in the centre-back position amid William Saliba’s injury absence. So, it appears Mikel Arteta is considering strengthening the right-back position.
Now, Football Insider state that Arsenal hold a long-standing interest in Livramento, and although they previously failed to buy him, they have continued to keep a close eye on his development.
Manchester City have also been monitoring his situation closely, with his existing deal set to run until 2028. Ideally, Newcastle don’t want to part ways with him and are considering handing him a fresh term.
However, if the Magpies fail to tie him down to a new deal over the coming months, they might be open to cashing-in on Livramento, valued at around £37m by Transfermarkt, next summer.
Livramento to Arsenal
After moving to St James’ Park from Southampton in 2023, the 23-year-old established himself as a key starter. However, he has lost his place in the starting line-up in recent seasons due to persistent fitness problems.
Livramento has featured only 19 matches in the Premier League since the beginning of last campaign, notching up a solitary assist. Nevertheless, he is still very young and has time to turn the situation around.
The Englishman is a right-back by trait but is also comfortable on the opposite side. He is quick, strong, comfortable playing out from the back, and is efficient in defensive contributions.
Livramento is a talented player and possesses the necessary attributes to flourish at the highest level. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services next summer.
