Arsenal very interested in signing Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez

By on October 28, 2026

Arsenal are reportedly very interested in signing Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, as per Caught Offside.

Despite selling Gabriel Jesus this summer, the Gunners decided not to purchase a new striker. So, Mikel Arteta currently has Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres as No.9 options.

The Swedish international was purchased last year to address the long-standing striker issues. Although he helped Arsenal win the Premier League title last term, he displayed inconsistent performances.

As a result, Arteta has used Havertz as the first-choice striker option this season. However, the duo have scored only three goals combined, with Gyokeres yet to put his name on the scoresheet.

Therefore, the Emirates club could do with signing a new striker next year. Caught Offside claim that Arsenal attempted to buy Alvarez this summer, but Los Rojiblancos ultimately managed to keep hold of him. Still, Arteta’s side are very interested in signing him and could make a move in January if he becomes available.

With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2030, the Spanish giants aren’t in any rush to sell him and demanded up to £125m this summer.

The report state that Barcelona have also been showing interest in him since the previous transfer window, but Arsenal have deeper pockets than the Blaugrana to seal the deal.

Alvarez to Arsenal

Alvarez is a striker by trait but is also comfortable on the flanks. He is quick, technically sound, can create opportunities for fellow attackers, and is efficient in finishing off his chances.

Moreover, he is efficient at taking set pieces, has an eye for scoring goals from distance, and works hard without possession. Alvarez has showcased his qualities for club and country in recent years and knows about the Premier League, having previously played for Manchester City.

The 26-year-old is considered one of the best forwards in the world and is currently at the prime stage of his career. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to lure him away from Estadio Metropolitano in January or next summer.
