Arsenal offered chance to sign Mohamed Kader Meite

Arsenal reportedly received the opportunity to sign Al-Hilal striker Mohamed Kader Meite this summer, as per TEAMtalk.

After letting Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli leave this summer, the Gunners only purchased Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge. Therefore, Mikel Arteta currently has Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres as striker options, while Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke are the right-wingers.

Tzolis is the only specialist left-winger Arsenal have, with Eberechi Eze able to provide cover in this position if needed. Madueke is also comfortable on the left-wing. Meaning, the North London club have fewer attacking options than they did last season.

Meanwhile, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal were offered the chance to sign Meite this summer, with intermediaries close to the player exploring options to find a suitable destination for him.

Although the 18-year-old joined Al-Hilal from Stade Rennais last winter, he has already started thinking about returning to Europe. Apart from the Emirates club, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur also received the opportunity to buy him.

On the other hand, the report state that Manchester United hold a long-standing interest in Meite, as they initially wanted to purchase him from Rennes but he surprisingly decided to move to the Middle East.

United maintained contact over this deal this summer but eventually decided not to make a move, having already got Benjamin Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee as striker options.

Meite to Arsenal

However, having recently signed Meite, Al-Hilal refused to let him leave before the deadline, with his existing deal set to run until 2029. He is valued at around £15m by Transfermarkt.

The youngster is a 6ft 4in tall right-footed striker. He is quick, strong, good in the air, can hold up the play and possesses the poacher’s instinct inside the box. Moreover, he works hard without possession.

Meite is a talented young striker and possesses the potential to reach the top. Therefore, he might have been a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future had they opted to purchase him before the deadline.

Meanwhile, following a 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Sunday, Arsenal are set to face Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in the opening Champions League fixture on Wednesday night.
