Arsenal urged to sign Julian Alvarez before deadline

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has urged his old club to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez before the 11 PM transfer deadline.

After winning the Premier League title last term, the Gunners have enjoyed a stellar start this season. They lifted the Community Shield by thrashing Manchester City 3-0 last month.

Moreover, they have won the first two Premier League fixtures against Coventry City and Aston Villa. Mikel Arteta’s side are currently joint top with Manchester City and are yet to concede a goal.

Meanwhile, with the transfer window set to slam shut in a few hours, Arsenal haven’t signed a new striker despite allowing Gabriel Jesus to join Barcelona.

The North London club currently have Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres as No.9 options, but the Swedish international has found it difficult to break into Arteta’s starting line-up this season, having displayed inconsistent performances last term.

Now, during a recent interview (via TEAMtalk), Petit states that Alvarez would be a perfect option for Arsenal to bolster the frontline as he has pace, technique and vision.

Moreover, the 26-year-old is a beautiful player with great movement and intelligence. He can even score goals and create opportunities for fellow attackers.

Petit said:

“He’s a beautiful player with great movement and intelligence. He’s got speed, technique, and vision. He can score many goals and provide assists. It’s hard sometimes to get intelligent players who understand the DNA of the team. Arsenal have a proper DNA on the pitch. I think Alvarez would be perfect for Arsenal.”

Moreover, Petit said that although Victor Osimhen is a different type of striker from Alvarez, he possesses pace and a strong personality. So, the Nigerian would also be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.

Alvarez’s future has been the subject of much speculation during this transfer window, but Los Rojiblancos are expected to keep hold of him beyond the transfer deadline.

The Argentinian has shown his goal-scoring prowess in the Spanish capital over the last two years, scoring 20 goals and registering nine assists last term.

He is a top-class player and would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services before the 11 PM deadline.
