Arsenal actively working to sign Atletico Madrid’s Alvarez

By on September 1, 2026

Arsenal are actively working to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julián Álvarez, as per TEAMtalk.

After joining Manchester City from River Plate, the 26-year-old enjoyed great success, winning every possible major competition. However, he mainly featured as Erling Haaland’s deputy.

As a result, he decided to leave a couple of years ago to play regularly and develop his career. Since moving to the Estadio Metropolitano, Álvarez has showcased his productivity, making 37 goal contributions across all competitions during his debut campaign.

Last season, he netted 20 goals and registered nine assists. However, he hasn’t been able to win any major silverware in the Spanish capital thus far.

Having proven his worth in club football, Alvarez has established himself as an undisputed starter in the Argentina national team’s starting line-up, helping his side win a World Cup, two Copa America trophies and a Finalissima.

Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are actively working to sign Alvarez, with the forward ready to leave Los Rojiblancos to take a new challenge in his career.

Alvarez ideally wants to join Barcelona, but Atlético Madrid have no intention of letting him join a direct rival. So, the striker might be open to moving to London but wants to take his extended family with him to the English capital.

Alvarez to Arsenal

Alvarez even wants to include a clause allowing for a potential future move to Barcelona, and Arsenal are ready to accept his demands to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.

With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2030, Atletico aren’t in any rush to sell him, and the South American is valued at around £103m by Transfermarkt.

Alvarez is a striker by trait but can provide cover in the second striker role if needed. Moreover, he is comfortable on the flanks. He is quick, technically sound, possesses the poacher’s instinct inside the box, and has an eye for scoring goals from distance.

Furthermore, he is efficient at taking set-pieces and works hard without possession. Alvarez is one of the best forwards in the world and is currently at the prime stage of his career.

Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they eventually manage to purchase him before the end of this transfer window.
