Arsenal in fierce battle to sign Mateus Mane from Wolves

By on July 2, 2026

Arsenal have expressed interest in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers’ attacking midfielder Mateus Mané this summer, according to Fussballdaten.

After recording success with the signing of Max Kilman from National League outfit Maidenhead United in 2018, Wolves appear to have unearthed another gem in Mané, who arrived from lower-league club Rochdale in 2024.

The teenager made history by becoming Wolves’ youngest-ever player to feature in the top flight, making his debut against Brighton & Hove Albion in a 2-0 defeat on May 10 at the age of 17 years, seven months and 13 days.

Having initially been used mainly from the bench during the early stages of last season, he went on to establish himself under Rob Edwards, finishing the campaign with 28 Premier League appearances and 31 outings across all competitions.

Beyond his goal contributions, Mané consistently brought energy and dynamism to Wolves’ attack, producing several impressive displays, particularly against the league’s stronger opponents.

As a result, Fussballdaten reports that several clubs across Europe are set to battle this summer for Mané’s signature.

Exciting prospect

One of the Premier League clubs looking to sign the youngster is Arsenal, according to the report, which claims that the Premier League champions are closely monitoring the 18-year-old ahead of a potential summer swoop.

With three years left in his contract, Wolves are in a strong negotiating position and could demand offers around £35m amid keen interest from several clubs, the report adds.

However, Arsenal are set to face fierce competition, with Fussballdaten adding that Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle United, Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt and Juventus have all shown interest in Mané.

Mané has mainly been utilised as an attacking midfielder by his former head coach, Rob Edwards, but he was regularly allowed to drift into wide positions due to his dynamism.

He also consistently dropped deeper to receive the ball and orchestrate play, thanks to his confidence on the ball, vision, and creativity.

At just 18, the Portuguese U21 international has already passed the Premier League physicality test, and there’s optimism he could develop further into a creative and goal-scoring attacking midfielder.

With Arsenal placing greater emphasis on signing young prospects, Mané could be a quality addition for the future who can also seamlessly slot into the first team, having already proven himself in the league last season.
