Arsenal in fierce battle to sign Anderlecht’s Nathan De Cat
Arsenal are reportedly in a fierce battle to sign Anderlecht midfielder Nathan De Cat, as per TEAMtalk.
After coming through the Belgian giants’ youth system, the 17-year-old made his first team debut last year before establishing himself as a key starter.
Last campaign, the youngster scored three goals and registered five assists in 39 appearances across all competitions. After showing glimpses of his qualities at Lotto Park, he has already made his international debut for the Belgian national team.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that De Cat’s emergence hasn’t gone unnoticed as the youngster has been attracting a lot of attention in this summer transfer window.
Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing him and could make a concrete approach over the coming weeks.
However, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig, and VfB Stuttgart are also in this race. The record German champions and BVB have even made approaches to purchase him.
In the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Everton, Brighton and Hove Albion, Liverpool, and Newcastle United are all keen on him.
De Cat to Arsenal
Man Utd have made enquiries over this deal, while Man City and Chelsea have been doing background checks. On the other hand, Tottenham are currently the most active suitors, having already held talks with Anderlecht.
Sporting CP have registered their interest in De Cat, but English and German clubs are currently the frontrunners in this race. Although he wants to join a club where he will be able to play regularly, he is likely to be bought by an elite European team.
De Cat is set to enter the final year of his current contract, and it is highly unlikely that he will extend the contract. So Anderlecht are expected to cash-in on him this summer and have slapped a £35m price tag on his head.
The Anderlecht star is a 6ft 4in tall deep-lying playmaker, but is also comfortable in the box-to-box role. He is a talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top.
Therefore, De Cat would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him by defeating other clubs in this race.
