Arsenal have expressed interest in signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt on a bargain free transfer next summer, according to Fussballdaten.

Since completing his move from Bayer Leverkusen in July 2019, Brandt, valued at £17m by Transfermarkt, has established himself as one of the most important figures at Borussia Dortmund, amassing 306 appearances across all competitions while producing 57 goals alongside 70 assists.

During his time with Die Borussen, the 29-year-old has lifted both the DFB-Pokal and the DFL-Supercup. He was also instrumental in Dortmund’s journey to the 2024 UEFA Champions League final under Edin Terzić, where they lost to Real Madrid.

This season, Brandt has continued to play a major role for Dortmund, recording 11 goals and four assists in what has now been confirmed as his final season at the Signal Iduna Park.

With his contract edging closer to expiry while he remains firmly within his peak years, the German midfielder has emerged as an appealing target for several top clubs, including Arsenal.

According to Fussballdaten, the Gunners’ boss Mikel Arteta is a ‘big admirer’ of Brandt and considers the 30-year-old a ‘perfect fit’ for his style of player.

Arsenal are now set to step up efforts to sign the attacking midfielder, as the report adds that the Premier League leaders are preparing a £6-7m per year salary package plus a sign-on bonus to convince him to join them in the summer.

However, the North Londoners will face stern competition from Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Fenerbahçe in the race for the German international, Fussballdaten adds.

Mikel Arteta has repeatedly spoken about his desire to make Arsenal more unpredictable and increasingly difficult for opponents to contain.

One of the main ways to achieve that is through tactical versatility across the squad, and Brandt would offer exactly that, given his ability to perform effectively in several positions.

Beyond his technical quality on the ball, the 48-cap Germany international also possesses the relentless work ethic off the ball that Arteta consistently demands of his players.

His experience, versatility, and overall profile make him a strong fit for Arsenal as they continue building a balanced squad capable of sustaining success both in England and across Europe beyond the current campaign.
