Arsenal in fierce battle to sign Atalanta’s Marco Palestra

By on April 8, 2026

Arsenal are reportedly in a fierce battle to sign Atalanta defender Marco Palestra, as per TEAMtalk.

The 21-year-old started his youth career for GS Assago before spending a very brief spell with Inter Milan. He joined La Dea’s famous academy at the age of nine.

After coming through their youth system, Palestra made his first team debut in 2023. However, he failed to break into Atalanta’s starting line-up; as a result, he joined Cagliari on loan last summer to play regularly and develop his career.

The youngster has enjoyed a promising campaign at Unipol Domus Stadium this season, making five goal contributions and keeping four clean sheets in 30 Serie A appearances.

Having shown glimpses of his qualities in club football, Palestra has secured his place in the Italy national team.

Now, TEAMtalk claim that the defender’s recent eye-catching performances haven’t gone unnoticed as he has started attracting a lot of attention ahead of the summer window.

Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, AFC Bournemouth, and Newcastle United have all registered their interest in signing him.

Palestra to Arsenal

Moreover, Arsenal are in this race and have monitored his development various times this season before making a potential summer swoop.

The report state that AC Milan, Juventus, Inter Milan, AS Roma, and Napoli are also interested in signing him. But Atalanta have no intention of letting their star player join a direct rival and have slapped a £39m price tag on his head.

Palestra, standing at 6ft 1in tall, is comfortable playing in the right-back and RWB position. Moreover, he can provide cover on the opposite side if needed.

Arsenal currently have Ben White and Jurrien Timber as options to deploy in the right-back position. However, the Englishman has struggled with fitness problems in recent months; as a result, he has been linked with a move away.

Palestra is a highly talented player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services during the offseason.
