Arsenal ‘well-positioned’ to sign Atletico’s Julian Alvarez
Arsenal are reportedly ‘well-positioned’ to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, as per Football London.
The Gunners decided to reinforce the frontline by purchasing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP last summer. He moved to the Emirates Stadium, having enjoyed two stellar campaigns at Jose Alvalade Stadium.
However, the Swedish international has displayed inconsistent performances in his debut season in the Premier League, scoring 16 goals and registering two assists in 42 appearances across all competitions. Still, Arsenal have enjoyed a stellar campaign, mounting a treble charge.
Apart from Gyokeres, Arsenal have Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus as striker options, but both have struggled with fitness problems over the last 12 months.
With Jesus’ existing deal set to expire at the end of next season, speculation surrounding his future has been emerging ahead of the summer transfer window.
Now, Football London report that Arsenal are considering signing a new striker and have identified Alvarez as a serious option.
The North London club are even ‘well-positioned’ to lure the Argentinian international to the Emirates Stadium if he becomes available. However, he still has a contract until 2030, and Los Rojiblancos have no intention of parting ways with him, so Arsenal will have to spend a substantial fee to seal the deal.
Alvarez to Arsenal
Alvarez has showcased his goal-scoring prowess in La Liga since joining from Manchester City a couple of years ago. He has helped his side reach the Copa del Rey final and Champions League quarter-final this season.
In 44 appearances across all competitions, the South American has scored 17 goals and registered nine assists this term.
The 26-year-old is one of the best forwards in the world and is currently at the prime stage of his career. He has even showcased his qualities on the international stage, winning two Copa America titles and a World Cup.
Having previously played for Man City, he is already familiar with the Premier League’s physicality. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a formal approach to secure his service this summer.
