Arsenal have expressed interest in signing highly rated England U19 centre-back Samuel Amissah from Fulham, according to the Telegraph.
Amissah has been a key part of the Hayden Mullins-led Fulham U21 squad, which currently sits in fourth place on 34 points, just one behind leaders Chelsea, who have 35.
His displays for the Cottagers’ youth side have seen him integrated into the senior setup, making the matchday squad on seven occasions under Marco Silva this campaign, including Premier League clashes against Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Leeds United.
The other occasions have been in cup clashes, including the Carabao Cup tie against Wycombe Wanderers and the 3-1 win over Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.
It appears Marco Silva has not been the only one to be impressed by Amissah’s displays, as the Telegraph claims that Arsenal have expressed interest in signing the 18-year-old.
With his contract at Craven Cottage set to run out at the end of the season, the 6ft 1in centre-back can join a Premier League or another European club for a fee, with the Gunners now showing interest, the report adds.
Exciting prospect
However, given his qualities and immense potential, interest in Amissah is expected to surge ahead of the summer, and it’s no surprise that the Telegraph reports Manchester United, Chelsea, Ajax, Juventus, and Marseille are set to battle Arsenal for his signature.
Following Andrea Berta’s arrival as sporting director, Arsenal have not only prioritised strengthening the first team but also intensified their youth-focused recruitment strategy, which has already brought several promising talents to the Emirates Stadium.
Among the latest additions are Colombian twins Edwin Quintero and Holger Quintero, while promising Stoke City centre-back Jaden Dixon and St Mirren forward Evan Mooney also arrived before the winter transfer window closed.
Mikel Arteta has already utilised some of Hale End’s brightest academy prospects this season, with the latest being Marli Solomon, who featured in the 3-0 win over Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League.
Earlier this season, Max Dowman, one of the most exciting players in England, became the Premier League’s second-youngest ever debutant behind Ethan Nwaneiri after coming on in the 64th minute in the 5-0 win over Leeds United in August.
Amissah would be another solid addition to Arsenal’s growing list of exciting prospects tipped for a first-team breakthrough in the future.
