Arsenal ‘pushing hard’ to sign Atletico Madrid’s Alvarez

By on February 23, 2026

Arsenal are reportedly ‘pushing hard’ to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, as per TEAMtalk.

Following Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz’s injury problems last term, the Gunners decided to reinforce the frontline by purchasing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP last summer.

The Swedish international initially struggled to showcase his best in the Premier League but has shown signs of improvement in recent weeks, making 10 goal contributions in the last 12 appearances across all competitions.

The 27-year-old even helped Mikel Arteta’s side thrash arch-rival Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 by scoring a brace in the Premier League last weekend. Overall, he has netted 15 goals and registered two assists in all competitions thus far.

Jesus has been playing as a deputy to Gyokeres but has been linked with a move away ahead of the upcoming summer window, with his existing deal set to expire at the end of next season.

Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are considering signing a new striker and have started ‘pushing hard to buy Alvarez, with the player keen on leaving Atletico Madrid.

The Argentinian international’s priority is to join Barcelona, and the Blaugrana have even held talks over this deal. However, Los Rojiblancos want more than £100m to sell him, with his existing deal set to run until 2030.

Alvarez to Arsenal

So, Hansi Flick’s side may struggle to seal the deal amid their financial difficulties. As a result, the player’s representatives have been holding talks regularly with Arsenal.

If the Alvarez eventually fails to engineer a move to Camp Nou, his preference is to move to London. Therefore, Arsenal are currently ‘ at the front of the queue’ in this race.

However, Chelsea are also in this race and have been holding negotiations with the South American regarding a potential summer swoop.

Atlético Madrid won’t stand in the South American’s way, but they don’t want the transfer saga to drag on and are keen to finalise the deal before August.

Alvarez is a Premier League-proven player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his service during the offseason.
