Arsenal have reportedly held discussions to sign Ruben Neves in January, as per Caught Offside.

The Gunners decided to reinforce the squad last summer with the ambition of finally winning the Premier League title this season, having finished second in each of the last three consecutive campaigns.

They bought Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze, and Noni Madueke to bolster the frontline, while Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard joined to strengthen the engine room.

Furthermore, Mikel Arteta’s side signed Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié to add depth to the defence. Kepa Arrizabalaga joined to support David Raya. Overall, the North London club splashed more than £250m.

Still, Arteta has recently revealed that Arsenal are planning to remain active next month to add more new faces amid their recent injury problems.

Now, Caught Offside state that Arsenal are looking to reinforce the defence, midfield, and attack, with Jeremy Jacquet, Honest Ahanor, and Davide Bartesaghi on their radar for the backline. On the other hand, Arsenal are interested in Kenan Yildiz, while they want Arda Guler from Real Madrid as an ‘Odegaard style’ project.

For midfield, Arsenal have discussed the possibility of signing Neves after being offered the chance to secure his services.

Neves to Arsenal

The Portuguese international is ‘keen’ on returning to Europe in January, having played the last couple of years at Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. He has also offered himself to other top teams around Europe apart from Arsenal.

The report claim that Neves isn’t the only midfield option on Arsenal’s wishlist, with Ayyoub Bouaddi and Aleksandar Stanković also included.

Neves, valued at around £22m by Transfermarkt, has entered the final few months of his current contract at Al-Hilal and has no intention of extending his deal.

Arsenal currently have Zubimendi, Norgaard, Mikel Merino, and Declan Rice as the main options to deploy in the deep midfield roles. However, the Dane has struggled to find regular game time thus far this season; as a result, Zubimendi has been taking enormous workloads.

As Neves is a Premier League-experienced player, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal to support Zubimendi should they eventually opt to secure his service next month.
