Arsenal in ‘strong position’ to sign Barcelona’s Marc Casado
Arsenal are reportedly in a ‘strong position’ to sign Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Gunners have started the new campaign like a team on a mission to finally win major silverware at the end of this season. They came close to winning the Premier League title in the last three consecutive campaigns, but they were pipped by Manchester City twice before losing out to Liverpool last term.
The North London club have accumulated 25 points from 10 Premier League games thus far, sitting six points ahead of second-placed Man City. On the other hand, they have won all four matches in the Champions League.
They have won the last 10 games across all competitions, keeping clean sheets in nine of those victories. They have conceded only three goals in the league and haven’t been breached in Europe’s elite club competition yet.
Amid this situation, Arsenal will face off against Sunderland in the Premier League today, and this is their last game before the November international break.
Meanwhile, Fichajes state that although Arsenal have built a strong team, Mikel Arteta is planning to refresh the squad next year to maintain their level. The Spanish boss wants to add further depth to the engine room despite signing Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard last summer and is keen on buying Casado.
Casado to Arsenal
Barcelona are prepared to let him leave in January to raise funds amid their financial difficulties and are ready to accept a fee of around £26m, with his existing deal set to run until 2028.
Chelsea and Napoli have also expressed their interest in the Barcelona star, but the Gunners are currently in a ‘strong position’ to purchase him in January ahead of their rivals.
Arsenal currently have Zubimendi, Norgaard, Mikel Merino, and Declan Rice as options for the deeper midfield roles. So, the North London club don’t need to add further depth in this area at the moment unless anyone leaves.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually make a concrete approach to secure the 22-year-old’s service in the upcoming winter transfer window.
