Arsenal are considering a move for a new left back during the closing stages of the summer window, according to French journalist Abdellah Boulma.
The club wants to strengthen key areas in their squad before the transfer window closes.
Reports suggest Jakub Kiwior could be on his way out, with Portuguese outlet O Jogo, relayed by SportWitness, claiming the defender is close to joining Porto.
Kiwior has been used as both a centre-back and left back but is believed to be unhappy with his current situation.
He is looking for regular game time and could leave the Premier League to secure that.
If Kiwior departs, Arsenal may need a natural left back to fill the gap. Riccardo Calafiori, who has featured as a left back this season, is primarily a centre-back who can cover on the left.
Myles Lewis-Skelly established himself as a left-back last season but came through the ranks as a midfielder and it remains to be seen whether that will be his long term position.
Jeremy Jacquet among possible options
The Gunners have been linked with French defender Jeremy Jacquet as a potential signing, according to Fabrizio Romano.
A move could depend on whether Kiwior completes his transfer to Porto. Arsenal are also open to selling Oleksandr Zinchenko, which makes the search for a natural left back even more important.
Bringing in a player who naturally operates as a left back would give Mikel Arteta more balance in his squad.
Currently, Arsenal have a strong group of defenders but lack a specialist for the left side. Arteta may feel the need for a different profile to provide competition and cover throughout the season.
Jacquet has now emerged as a prime target and he could be a cost effective option given his Transfermarkt valuation is just £8.5m.
Arsenal have started the Premier League campaign strongly, winning their opening two matches.
They beat Manchester United 1-0 in a hard-fought game and followed that up with a 5-0 win over Leeds United. These results show the team’s determination to fight for major honours this season.
The North London side will now turn their attention to a tough trip to Anfield. They face Liverpool on 31 August in what could be one of their most important early-season fixtures.
A positive result against a top rival would boost confidence as they aim to challenge for the title and end their long wait for silverware.
