Arsenal ‘have the budget’ to sign Alexander Isak
Arsenal reportedly ‘have the budget’ to sign Newcastle United ace Alexander Isak, as per BBC Sport.
The Gunners have prioritised reinforcing the centre-forward position in this transfer window and were said to be interested in the Swedish international early on this summer, having been impressed by his performances in the Premier League in the last two seasons.
However, the Magpies made it clear that the player isn’t for sale, and Mikel Arteta shifted focus to alternative options. Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres emerged as primary targets, and they worked on both deals for several weeks.
Eventually, they stepped up efforts to sign Isak’s countryman Gyokeres, and following intense negotiations with Sporting CP, Arsenal are finally on the verge of securing his service.
Liverpool recently made a move to sign Isak, and the Tyneside club maintained their stance as the player isn’t up for sale. However, the player has now handed in a transfer request as he is keen on taking the next step in his career.
The Merseyside club are said to be still eager to buy him despite already purchasing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt by spending around £80m.
Isak to Arsenal
Now, BBC Sport report that Newcastle want £130m to sell Isak and most Premier League clubs can’t afford to buy him, but Arsenal ‘have the budget’ to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
However, Arteta’s side are now close to signing Gyokeres, and considering they already have Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, they are unlikely to go for Isak.
Along with Gyokeres’ impending arrival, Arsenal have already signed Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, and Cristhian Mosquera, spending around £200m so far.
Therefore, if on top of this spending, they have the budget to sign Isak, they should go for a top-class left-winger, instead of signing another striker. Rodrygo Goes, Anthony Gordon, and Eberechi Eze have been linked with a move, and any of those three players would be a great coup for Arteta’s side.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have travelled to Asia for the pre-season tour and played their first friendly game on Wednesday against AC Milan. They won the match 1-0 in regulation time; additionally, a penalty shootout was held, and the Serie A giants won that.
