Arsenal have reached a full agreement with Sporting CP to sign Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

The Premier League side had earlier agreed to pay an initial fee of £54.8 million, with an additional £8.6 million in add-ons

Talks stalled over the structure and likelihood of those bonuses being triggered, causing delays in finalising the deal.

However, both parties have now resolved those differences, with the report claiming the player’s agent accepted a reduced commission to help complete the move.

Gyokeres was only interested in joining Arsenal and refused to consider offers from other clubs, despite late enquiries from several sides.

He is now set to fly out to Singapore to undergo his medical and link-up with the Arsenal squad on their pre-season tour.

Gunners secure top striker target

The 27-year-old scored 54 goals in 52 matches across all competitions for Sporting last season, attracting attention from top clubs across Europe.

He was Mikel Arteta’s first-choice striker target and will now join the squad ahead of the new campaign.

Arsenal struggled in the final third last season, especially during periods when Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus were sidelined with injuries.

The Gunners ended the 2024-25 season in second place for the third year in a row, ten points behind champions Liverpool.

They also managed 17 fewer goals than Arne Slot’s side, which underlined the need for a proven goalscorer.

Gyokeres’ record makes him one of Europe’s top forwards

Gyokeres left Brighton in 2021 to join Coventry City in a deal worth around £1 million.

His impressive performances in the Championship earned him a £17 million move to Sporting in 2023.

Since moving to Portugal, he has scored 97 goals and provided 28 assists, helping Sporting win back-to-back league titles and last season’s Taca de Portugal.

The Swede has also made 26 appearances for his national team, scoring 15 goals since making his debut at age 20.

Gyokeres is expected to lead the line for Arsenal as they aim to mount another strong title challenge next season.

The club hopes his arrival will finally solve their long-standing issues up front and add much-needed cutting edge in attack.
