Arsenal agree deal to sign Salford City’s Will Wright
Arsenal have reportedly agreed on a deal in principle with Salford City to sign Will Wright, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have been very active in this transfer window as they are looking to assemble a squad that can finally win the Premier League title next campaign.
After purchasing Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, and Christian Norgaard, the North London club are close to finalising deals for Viktor Gyokeres and Cristhian Mosquera.
Arsenal head to Singapore tomorrow for their pre-season tour, and some fans are worried that the club might not complete the Gyökeres deal in time for him to travel with the squad.
Furthermore, Arsenal also want a new left-sided forward and have been linked with Rodrygo Goes of Real Madrid, Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon, and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.
Alongside bolstering the first team squad, Arsenal have also been looking to upgrade the youth team, and Romano has reported that the North London club have agreed on a deal to sign Wright, who is a 6ft 3in tall defender.
Wright to Arsenal
The Athletic report that Per Mertesacker has been given the responsibility of reinforcing the youth team, and this deal is driven by him. Arsenal are set to pay a fee of around £200,000 plus bonuses to Salford to seal the deal.
Liverpool were also keen on signing the 17-year-old, but following Arsenal’s decision to step up efforts to finalise the move, the Merseyside club opted to stop their interest in him.
Arsenal have been producing young talents over the years, with Bukayo Saka being the biggest success story in recent times. Furthermore, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri have also forced their way into the first team after progressing through youth teams.
Chido Obi and Ayden Heaven are also the Gunners’ youth products, but they decided to join Manchester United to play regularly as they struggled to break into Arteta’s strong team.
Wright is a familiar surname for the Arsenal household, but unlike Ian, Will is a defender. Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see how the 17-year-old’s future unfolds at the Hale End.
