Arsenal plot surprise swoop to sign PL flop Antony
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a surprise swoop to sign Antony, as per a recent Spanish report.
After joining Manchester United from Ajax Amsterdam for a huge fee back in 2022, the Brazilian enjoyed a promising start at Old Trafford, scoring three goals in as many consecutive matches.
However, he failed to continue the momentum and struggled ever since before joining Real Betis on a loan deal in the winter window. The 25-year-old has been enjoying a stellar time at Estadio Benito Villamarin in recent months, making eight goal contributions in 12 games in all competitions.
He even won the Player of the Match award in his first three consecutive La Liga matches for Betis. He has helped his side win six successive games in the league, including a victory over Real Madrid. Moreover, the forward has taken the Spanish club to the quarter-final of the Conference League.
Now, as per a Spanish report (via Football Transfers), Arsenal have been monitoring his performances closely and believe he would be able to add depth and creativity to the attack. So, the Gunners could make a move to secure his service in the upcoming transfer window.
Man Utd want a fee of around £42m to sell the South American permanently this summer and his price has risen following his eye-catching displays in the Spanish top flight.
Antony to Arsenal
The former Ajax star is predominantly a left-footed right winger. Bukayo Saka has been the undisputed starter on the right side of the attack for the North London club over the years.
Amid his injury absence, Ethan Nwaneri provided cover in this position and displayed impressive performances. The Englishman has recovered and even scored against Fulham. Therefore, Arsenal aren’t in any need to add more depth in the RW position.
Although Antony has regained his form in La Liga, he failed to prove his worth in the Premier League during his time with the Red Devils. Therefore, it would be a risky move to secure his service by spending a big fee.
So, if Arteta wants to add more depth in the right flank, Arsenal would be better off exploring other options.
