Arsenal have been informed that they will have to splash a fee of around £69m to sign Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres this summer, as per the Mirror.

It is an open secret that the Gunners are planning to prioritise signing a new prolific goal-scorer to reinforce their frontline ahead of next season. Numerous names have emerged as serious targets with Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen being among them, but Gyokeres has been mentioned as a key target in recent times.

However, it was reported that the Swedish international has a £86m release clause included in his current contract so it was thought that the North London club would find it difficult to purchase the forward this summer.

However, according to the report by the Mirror, Sporting have decided to reduce their asking price a bit and are now willing to accept a fee of around £69m to let their star man leave the club. So, this is a huge boost for Arsenal in pursuit of the 25-year-old.

Considering Brentford reportedly want a fee of around £100m to sell Toney, while Osimhen has a release clause included in his current contract – which is more than £100m, Gyokeres would be a significantly cheaper option for Arsenal.

Gyokeres to Arsenal

After joining Sporting from Coventry City last summer, the forward has burst onto the scene after displaying impressive performances in the Portuguese top-flight this term, making 50-goal contributions and helping his side mount a title charge.

Gyokeres is quick, strong, can link up the play, has the efficiency of finishing off his chances, can create opportunities for fellow attackers and also works extremely hard without possession.

The 25-year-old has showcased glimpses of his qualities this season and the North Londoners will be hoping that he will be able to replicate the same performance in the Premier League if he were to move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to acquire the former Coventry City star’s service in the upcoming transfer window to reinforce their attacking department.
