Arsenal step up interest in Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres
Tonight, as Sporting Lisbon takes on Benfica, Fabrizio Romano reveals to Caught Offside that Arsenal will have their scouts watching Viktor Gyokeres ahead of a potential move.
According to the Daily Mail, Gyokeres is one of Arsenal’s four striker targets. Notably, the other three are Ivan Toney, Victor Osimhen, and Joshua Zirkzee. In a follow-up to the Mail’s revelation, Fabrizio Romano has now dropped another update in Arsenal’s pursuit of Gyokeres.
Gyokeres’ transfer latest
Romano claims Arsenal will be on a mission in Portugal on Thursday night. They’ll be in Lisbon at the Estadio Jose Alvalade to watch Sporting versus Benfica play in the Taça de Portugal semi-final.
According to the transfer guru, they’ll scout Viktor Gyokeres as they continue to decide whether he is the right striker for them. In addition to Arsenal, though, he claims other teams will also be scouting the Swedish striker.
“It’s been reported that their scouts will watch Sporting Lisbon today to keep an eye on Viktor Gyokeres,” Romano said.
“It’s the case that Arsenal have always scouts around for multiple players, and Gyokeres is being scouted by multiple clubs as he’s doing fantastic at Sporting. But there’s still nothing decided or concrete on this one; it’s just normal scouting.”
Arsenal are on the hunt for a clinical striker. Gyokeres’ 17 goals and 8 assists throughout 21 games should have piqued their interest. However, a striker is more than just his goal-scoring statistics. That is why the Gunners have sent scouts to conduct due diligence.
Their scouting report, which will detail his playing style, shortcomings, and strengths, may bring him closer or further away from a move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer.
Gyokeres has a release clause worth around £85m and with so many clubs showing an interest, Sporting are unlikely to accept anything less for their star man.
Therefore, Arsenal are going to have to be prepared to pay big money if they want to sign Gyokeres in the summer.
