Arsenal plotting swoop for Newcastle star Alexander Isak
Arsenal have reportedly been showing an interest in signing Newcastle United star Alexander Isak, as per The Athletic.
After moving to St. James’ Park during the summer of 2022 from Real Sociedad in a £63m deal, the 24-year-old enjoyed a promising debut campaign in the Premier League last term. The Swedish international has continued his impressive performances for the Magpies this term, scoring 10 goals in 16 league appearances.
So, it appears Isak’s recent eye-catching performances have attracted the attention of upper echelons of Premier League clubs with the Gunners among those to have registered their interest.
According to the report by The Athletic, Newcastle could be forced to sell some of their valuable assets next summer to stay on the right side of FFP regulations.
The report claims that the North London club admire Isak so they could look to make a swoop for him at the end of this season to purchase him by taking advantage of the Magpies’ current situation.
Isak to Arsenal
However, The Athletic states that purchasing Isak won’t be straightforward for Arsenal as Eddie Howe doesn’t want to let any of his key players leave the club but if Newcastle are forced to cash-in then they would demand a fee of more than £100m.
Isak is a versatile player as he can play multiple positions across the frontline. He is quick, good in the air, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, is efficient in link-up play, has the ability to finish off his chances and also works hard without possession.
The Sweden international has already showcased his qualities in the English top-flight. So, considering he is a Premier League proven striker, Isak would be a great coup for the North London club to bolster their frontline should they acquire his service.
However, it is likely to be extremely difficult for Arsenal to sign the former Real Sociedad star if Newcastle stay firm on their £100m valuation. It is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club opt to make a concrete approach to sign Isak if he eventually leaves St. James’ Park this year.
