Arsenal learn price tag of striker target Jonathan David
Arsenal have reportedly been told to pay £57m to sign striker target and LOSC Lille forward Jonathan David this summer, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have continuously been getting linked with forward options ahead of the summer window – which suggests that perhaps, they are seriously exploring the possibility of bolstering their attacking department for next season.
Dusan Vlahovic, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Ansu Fati and Rasmus Winther Hojlund have all been mentioned as potential targets for Mikel Arteta’s side but David has emerged as a serious option in recent times.
Writing on Twitter, Romano has reported that Lille are anticipating big clubs around Europe would make a move for their in-form striker this summer and they will demand a fee of around £57m [€65m] to let David leave.
Romano wrote:
“Understand price tag to sign Jonathan David this summer will be around €65m as Lille expect top clubs to move for the Canadian striker.”
David to Arsenal
On the other hand, writing on Caught Offside, Romano has claimed that the Canadian wants to move away from Lille during the off-season and La Liga or Premier League is his preferred destination.
Romano wrote:
“I’m told he’d [David] love La Liga or Premier League as destinations.”
The Lille star has been enjoying a stellar campaign in Ligue 1 this season, scoring 20 goals and registering four assists in 30 league appearances. He is currently the leading goal-scorer in the French top-flight along with Kylian Mbappe.
So, it appears after displaying excellent performances for Lille this term, the 23-year-old has attracted the attention of several big clubs around Europe with Arsenal among those to have registered their interest.
David is quick, strong, can finish off his chances, is good in link-up play and can press the opposition higher up the field. He is an extremely talented player and would be a solid signing for Arsenal if the Gunners manage to get a deal over the line.
However, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal decide to make a concrete approach to sign him if he ends up leaving the Stade Pierre-Mauroy at the end of this season. Arteta has other areas he needs to strengthen, so he may not have the budget to sign a big-money striker as well.
