Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt in the summer, as per the German outlet Deutsche Welle.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man has been enjoying a stellar campaign at Signal Iuna Park this term, scoring eight goals and notching up four assists in 23 Bundesliga appearances.

The midfielder has entered the final 18 months of his current contract but hasn’t committed his long-term future to BVB yet. So, speculation surrounding his future continues to grow and the Gunners are looking to take advantage of this situation.

According to the report by Deutsche Welle (via Sports Witness), having failed to showcase his best since joining the club back in 2019, Brandt was on Dortmund’s outgoing list at the beginning of this season. But, following the midfielder’s impressive displays this season, Edin Terzic’s side are now keen on keeping hold of him and are looking to tie the midfielder down into a new deal.

However, the report states that after his resurgence this season, Brandt has started to attract attention from clubs around Europe with Arsenal among those looking to secure the German’s signature. But, signing Brandt won’t be easy for the Gunners as arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on purchasing the highly talented midfielder in the summer.

Brandt to Arsenal

Arsenal are reportedly looking to remain busy in the upcoming summer window and are prioritising bolstering their engine room for next season. Mikel Arteta seemingly wants to reinforce the holding midfield position and is eyeing a swoop for West Ham star Declan Rice. But, it appears the north London club are also contemplating a move for a more attack-minded midfielder with Brandt emerging as a target.

It has previously been suggested that the Dortmund man could leave Signal Iduna Park at the end of this season and would be open to moving to the Premier League – which is encouraging for the Gunners.

However, Brandt – valued at around £25m by Transfermarkt – likes to be deployed in the advanced midfield position and having already got Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira in the squad, Arsenal don’t need more additions in that position this summer.

So, rather than splashing the cash to bolster the number ten position, Arsenal would be better off saving the transfer budget to strengthen other areas of the squad.
