Arsenal ‘willing’ to match Shakhtar’s £56m asking price to sign Mudryk

Arsenal would reportedly pay Shakhtar Donetsk’s £56m asking price to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk, as per the transfer journalist Dean Jones.
The Gunners have seemingly been eyeing a move for a new winger since last summer and it appears they might intensify their interest in signing one in the January transfer window.
Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Mykhaylo Mudryk is the player who is on the north London club’s radar to bolster their flanks and they have had a positive talk with the player’s representatives over a possible transfer move. Shakhtar could ask for a fee more than €60-65m(£52-£56m) to sell the talented forward in January.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones has now claimed that Arsenal would be ‘willing to pay’ the £56m fee to sign Mudryk in the upcoming transfer window and Mikel Arteta’s side know that they would need to spend big in order to sign a talented youngster like the Ukrainian.
The journalist further states that the mentioned asking price is a lot of money traditionally, however, in recent days it’s a ‘reasonable’ fee to sign players with high potential.
Mudryk to Arsenal
When asked whether Arsenal would want to match Shakhtar’s asking price to sign the 21-year-old, Jones said:
“I think they [Arsenal] would, yeah. And I think they know that they’ve got to. So, we think €65 million (£56m) is traditionally a lot of money in football, but it’s actually becoming a reasonable figure in the transfer market for the players with a high ceiling. And I think that that is an amount that Arsenal will be willing to pay.”
Arsenal showed, last night, how much they need to strengthen the squad in order to compete in all the competitions that they are in, this season. Mikel Arteta made some wholesale changes in the EFL Cup encounter against Brighton & Hove Albion, and provided crucial game times to the squad player, but ended up losing the game by 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium and are now eliminated from this tournament.
This shows the drop-off that the Spanish boss has at his disposal after the first eleven. So, the Gunners need to spend again this January – after making five major acquisitions last summer and investing around £120m – to strengthen the squad in order to mount a title charge this term and go deep in the other Cup competitions that they are in at the moment, and winning any of them.
The flank is one of the positions that Arsenal desperately need to bolster due to the fact that they lack quality options in that department after first-choice options Gabriel Martinell and Bukayo Saka. So, signing Mudryk could address that issue – given he can be deployed on either wing – if the Emirates outfit manage to get this deal over the line this January.
