Oleksandr Zinchenko heading to Orlando for Arsenal medical
Oleksandr Zinchenko has said goodbye to the Manchester City squad and is travelling to Orlando to finalise his move to Arsenal, according to The Sun.
Arsenal have been in the market for a versatile left-back this summer and turned their attention to Zinchenko after refusing to enter a bidding war with Manchester United for Lisandro Martinez.
After lengthy negotiations with Manchester City, we finally agreed a deal for the Ukrainian international with The Sun claiming Arsenal will pay £30m up front with a further £2m due if certain add-ons are triggered.
The newspaper says Zinchenko has now said his goodbyes to the Manchester City squad in Texas and left their pre-season tour to catch a flight to Orlando where he’ll complete his switch to Arsenal.
The Gunners are currently in Orlando on their pre-season tour and The Sun says Zinchenko will undergo his medical in Florida within the next 24 hours before signing a four-year contract.
The Athletic are also reporting this same information so it appears Zinchenko really is on the verge of securing his move to the Emirates Stadium.
As long as there are no last minute complications, the 25-year-old will become Arsenal’s fifth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Matt Turner, Fabio Vieira, Marquinhos and Gabriel Jesus.
Zinchenko has mainly been deployed at left-back by Pep Guardiola so he’ll provide stiff competition for Kieran Tierney. However, he’s also comfortable playing on the left side of central midfield – where he’s excelled for Ukraine.
With Arteta seemingly in the market for an upgrade on Granit Xhaka, Zinchenko could get plenty of minutes in midfield for Arsenal too this coming season.
Zinchenko has won 4 Premier League titles and 5 domestic cups during his time at City, and I think he’ll prove to be a superb addition to our squad.
His arrival is likely to result in Nuno Tavares heading out on loan. The Portuguese youngster struggled to deputise for Tierney last season and clearly needs more time to develop before he’s ready to play for The Arsenal.
