Arsenal boss provides positive update on Tomiyasu ahead of Man Utd clash
Mikel Arteta has confirmed Takehiro Tomiyasu is set to make his long-awaited comeback from injury when Arsenal take on Manchester United this weekend.
Tomiyasu has made just two appearances in 2022 and has been on the sidelines since late January due to niggling calf injuries. The Japan international was able to resume full training this week.
Arteta has been speaking at his press conference today and provided an update on Tomiyasu with the Gunners boss confirming the full-back will return to the squad as long as he comes through training today unscathed.
The boss is quoted by football london as saying today:
Arteta on Tomiyasu
If he trains today and he feels good he will be available tomorrow.
Tomi’s return will be a big boost for Arsenal, however, having been on the sidelines for around three months, it’s highly unlikely he’ll start against United. Therefore, a place on the bench is the best Tomiyasu can hope for tomorrow.
Arsenal have no other fresh injury concerns following Wednesday night’s huge 4-2 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but Arteta will still be without two key players this weekend.
Unfortunately, Kieran Tierney won’t play again this season after undergoing surgery on a knee injury that he picked up while away with the Scotland squad during the March international break.
Thomas Partey is also facing a race against time to play for Arsenal again this campaign. The midfielder suffered a thigh injury during our defeat to Crystal Palace earlier this month and it’s feared he won’t be back before the season is out.
Arsenal desperately need to build on the win over Chelsea as we head into the weekend action sitting level on points with fourth-placed Tottenham.
A win over Man Utd at the Emirates tomorrow would be a huge boost in the race to finish fourth, so we have to apply some real pressure on Tottenham ahead of their trip to Brighton later in the day.
