Confirmed line-ups: Arsenal vs Brighton – Tavares axed, Lokonga starts
Arsenal will be looking to reclaim fourth place with a win over Brighton at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon.
We dropped out of the top four following a 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last Monday night so Mikel Arteta will be demanding a response from his players today.
With Kieran Tierney ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, the boss has opted to drop Nuno Tavares following his disastrous performance against Palace. Granit Xhaka starts and could be deployed at left-back – although Bukayo Saka is also in the starting eleven so we’ll have to wait and see how Arteta line-up the team.
Aaron Ramsdale retains his place between the sticks while Gabriel marshals the defence once again despite his disappointing showing against Palace. Ben White also starts at the back while Cedric Soares continues at right-back in the absence of Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Thomas Partey has been ruled out for several weeks with a thigh injury that he sustained at Selhurst Park so Albert Sambi Lokonga is recalled to start in midfield this afternoon.
Martin Odegaard starts in the attacking midfield role for Arsenal today while Gabriel Martinelli is recalled to start along with Emile Smith Rowe.
Alexandre Lacazette once again leads the line up front. Let’s hope he manages to break his goal drought this afternoon.
These are the line-ups:
Arsenal
Ramsdale, Soares, White, Gabriel, Xhaka, Lokonga, Smith Rowe, Odegaard, Saka, Martinelli, Lacazette.
Subs: Leno, Holding, Pepe, Tavares, Eneny, Nketiah, Ogungbo, Swanson, Hutchinson.
Brighton
Sanchez, Veltman, Dunk, Cucurella, Mwepu, Gross, Caicedo, Bissouma, Mac Allister, Trossard, Welbeck
Subs: Lamptey, Webster, Maupay, Lallana, Alzate, March, Steele, Offiah, Sarmiento
