Europa League draw: Arsenal face short-haul trips to Germany, Portugal and Belgium

Arsenal have been drawn to face Eintracht Frankfurt, Standard Liege and Vitoria SC in the group stages of the Europa League following today’s draw.

Unfortunately, we blew two golden chances last season to get out of this second tier competition and back into the Champions League. We were in prime position to finish at least fourth, if not third, in the league with five games to go but somehow failed to win any of our games against Crystal Palace, Wolves, Leicester or Brighton.

That shocking run saw us finish fifth, just one point behind Tottenham. Arsenal then capitulated against Chelsea in the Europa League final – losing 4-1 – to consign us to another season without Champions League football.

So we start another gruelling Europa League campaign and we’ve been drawn in Group F along with Eintracht Frankfurt. The German side are arguably the hardest team we could have got from Pot 2 as they got to the semi-finals last season.

Arsenal will also face Belgian side Standard Liege and Vitoria SC of Portugal so the group should be easy to get out of and a huge bonus is the short trips for the squad and fans.
