Pre-Tottenham team news update: Arsenal confirm huge double injury boost

Arsenal have offered a team news update ahead of Sunday’s NLD with Tottenham and the club have confirmed a huge double injury boost involving Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney.
Bellerin hasn’t featured for Arsenal since damaging his knee ligaments during the win over Chelsea back in January and until now the right-back was expected to be back at some point in October.
However, having progressed well with his recovery since starting light training this month, the club have now confirmed Bellerin is set to resume full training in September – well ahead of schedule.
Tierney was also not initially expected to return until October having joined the club from Celtic on deadline day still recovering from a groin injury that’s hampered him since the back end of last season.
But the Scottish international has also been making excellent progress in his recovery at London Colney and Arsenal say Tierney should join Bellerin in full training next month as long as he doesn’t suffer any setbacks.
Rob Holding continued his comeback from a knee injury with a 90 minute run-out for the U23s against Everton last Friday night so the centre-back is on the verge of being available for first team duty – although I doubt Unai Emery will consider him for selection against Tottenham.
The club have also provided an update on Emile Smith Rowe and the midfielder is on the comeback trail after turning out for the U23s and U21s recently following a groin problem while Dinos Mavropanos should resume full training next month as he bids to return from his own groin complaint.
An update on Arsenal.com confirmed:
Rob Holding
Left knee. Continuing with on-field rehabilitation and successfully completed 90 for the U-23s against Everton on Friday.Emile Smith Rowe
Groin. Successfully completed 80 minutes for the U-23s against Everton on Friday and 90 minutes for the U-21s against Northampton Town on Tuesday night.Hector Bellerin
Left knee. Continuing with on-field rehabilitation. Progressing well and aiming to participate in full training in September.Kieran Tierney
Groin. Continues to receive treatment and further assessments. Progressing well and aiming to participate in full training in September.Dinos Mavropanos
Groin. Continues to receive treatment and further assessments. Progressing well and aiming to participate in full training in September.
It will be a HUGE boost to have Bellerin and Tierney back in full training next month and as long as they continue to recover well, they should be back in contention by late September/early October.
Bellerin may take a little longer as he’s been out for so long and no doubt he’ll play for the U23s a few times like Holding has before Emery will bring him back into the first team fold but it’s still great to hear Hector and Kieran are ahead of schedule.
Obviously they won’t be available against Tottenham on Sunday so Ainsley Maitland-Niles is expected to retain his place at right-back but Sead Kolasinac could come in at left-back amid speculation linking Nacho Monreal with a move to Spain.
