BBC – Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey ruled out for the rest of the season
According to the BBC, Arsenal have been dealt a major injury blow as Aaron Ramsey has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a hamstring problem.
Ramsey sustained the injury during the second leg of our Europa League quarter-final win over Napoli two weeks ago and he was initially ruled out for around 3-4 weeks.
That time-frame gave hope to the Welsh international making it back in time to play some part in our run-in as we battle to finish in the top four and push to win the Europa League.
It appeared that was still a realistic aim as Arsenal didn’t rule Ramsey out for the rest of the season during their team news update on Arsenal.com this morning. The club confirmed Rambo would miss Thursday night’s semi-final first leg against Valencia but said he was continuing to ‘receive treatment and further assessment’ on his hamstring.
However, BBC journalist David Ornstein claims that the 28-year-old’s injury will take longer than first thought to heal and the midfielder has now been ruled out for the rest of the campaign.
Ornstein has close ties to Arsenal so we have to assume this news is true and it means Ramsey has now played his final game for the club as he’ll join Juventus on a free transfer when his Arsenal contract expires on June 30.
This is obviously a huge blow to our hopes of finishing in the top four or winning the Europa League as Ramsey has been a key player for us in recent games since Emery brought him back into the first team picture.
However, it’s also a sad way for his Arsenal career to end as it would have been great to see him play at least one more game in the famous Red & White shirt before he moved to Italy.
In other team news, Nacho Monreal remains a doubt to face Valencia as he’ll need to have his calf injury assessed having missed the defeat at Leicester on Sunday while Denis Suarez has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a groin injury.
Our long-term absentees are obviously out of the Valencia game as Hector Bellerin, Danny Welbeck and Rob Holding continue their recoveries from serious injuries.
