Transfer news: Arsenal in talks to sign £50m Brazilian star
According to The Sun, Arsenal have asked Barcelona to sign Malcom on loan ahead of a potential £50m permanent move in the summer.
Unai Emery has made no secret of his desire to strengthen his squad before the end of the month and an attacking midfielder and/or winger is on the agenda as Mesut Ozil continues to be frozen out by the manager.
We were linked with Gelson Martins last week but he’s joined Monaco on loan from Atletico Madrid and it looks like Emery has now turned his attention to signing another La Liga outcast.
The Sun claims that during talks about a deal for midfielder Denis Suarez, Arsenal also asked Barcelona about signing Malcom on loan until the end of the season with a view to making it permanent for £50m this summer.
Malcom has been on Arsenal’s radar for some time as he was linked during his days at Bordeaux before he joined Barca last summer but his stint at the Nou Camp has turned in to a nightmare.
The 21-year-old has struggled to force his way in to Ernesto Valverde’s starting eleven as he’s started just one La Liga game so far this season and hasn’t even made the match-day squad at times.
The Sun says that Barca officials still believe Malcom will develop in to a top player so they’re reluctant to let him leave on a permanent basis but a short-term loan could suit all parties.
Obviously the Brazilian U23 international would like to play more football so the newspaper says Malcom would be open to the idea of a move if it meant regular action – which he should get at Arsenal.
The South American can play on either wing or through the middle as an attacking midfielder if needed so his versatility would make him the ideal signing for Emery if we could pull it off.
Arsenal in talks to sign £35m attacker
Malcom may have lost his way at Barcelona but he provided 12 goals 8 assists at Bordeaux last season and I think he’d a hugely talented player so I’d love to see us sign him this month.
Who knows, if it works out we might be able to make it permanent in the summer and I’d much rather see us putting time in to Malcom rather than signing Ivan Perisic – who’s also been strongly linked lately.
