Arsenal open talks over deal to sign £35m midfield star
According to a report in the Mirror, Arsenal have already opened preliminary talks over a deal to sign Nice star Jean-Michael Seri but will face stiff competition for his signature this summer.
Arsene Wenger is under increasing pressure to step down at the end of the season after our Carabao Cup defeat but no matter who’s in charge this summer we desperately need to strengthen our midfield options.
Santi Cazorla is highly unlikely to play for us again, Jack Wilshere is yet to sign a new deal, Granit Xhaka has been a huge disappointment, Aaron Ramsey continues to struggle with injuries while Mohamed Elneny just isn’t good enough.
So at least one central midfielder is needed in the summer and it looks like we’ve identified Seri as a prime target as the Mirror are carrying a report from The Sun that claims Arsenal are among the clubs chasing his signature.
The report says we’ve already opened initial talks to enquire about Seri’s situation but we’ll face competition from Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.
It will be a struggle to compete with those clubs if we can’t offer Champions League football but the Ivory Coast international would be an excellent signing if we could somehow pull it off.
Seri is one of the best all-round midfielders in French football and he’s available for a bargain £35m due to a buyout clause in his contract so we should be doing everything we can to lure him to north London.
He reportedly came close to joining Barcelona last summer and it looks like there will be plenty of interest once again this summer but I’d love to see Arsenal make a real statement by beating our rivals to Seri’s signature.
Don’t hold your breath though….
